How do you drive cars?
I mean with this camera and perspective.

The same way you would with your character?

go forward with w, back with s, turn with a and d. Like with real life driving, practice

It may be a bit hard when you do it for the first time, but it becomes easy quite fast when you do it for some time.

But you see almost nothing in front of you. I mean the range. You go fast and then boom, a crash site ahead. Or a bunch of zombies. And you bump right into them. Bad for your car to put it mildly.

The only issue I have is reversing 'a' and 'd' when heading south east vs heading north west for example. Zoom all the way out when driving, and be sure to have the lights on (at night). I try not to drive in the rain/fog though due to the exact situation the OP described.

A few pointers:

Do not go full gas on the car. Game have a cruise mode, press shift + W to increase cruise speed and shift + S to decrease. Use the correct speed for the places you're in and how much debris there's in front of you. Don't go too fast, so you can react in time, nor too slow so you waste fuel.

Enable auto-pan when driving, it will make your vehicle stand on the edge of the screen, so you can see more of the road ahead. Also zoom out as much as you can.

The key here is to control your speed so you have enough time to react and brake or dodge the obstacle, just like in real life.

What is auto-pan? Some kind of a mode or an option?

It's an option of the game.

just go to options and tick 'Pan Camera while Driving' at the camera section of 'Display' menu if it's not already.

When you have your window open, which can be done using the vehicle menu (press v to access), you can hold right click to look farther away just like when you're on foot.

Great, thank you guys, it's exactly what I wanted to know.

Drive slower…

Also, if you're like me and find auto-panning a bit disorienting, you can still roll your car window down using the radial menu with V, and if the window is open it'll allow you to pan your screen by holding right click and dragging the cursor to the edge of the screen.
(Just don't forget to roll it back up if you're around zombies!) Sometimes a car window can mean the difference between life and death.

But yes, Auto panning can be useful, I just go at a decent speed and always expect an obstacle ahead, be prepared to slow down, and check the brakes on the car you're driving! All it takes is going to the hood and pressing E, if your breaks are bad, the car will take longer to slow down.

Are you for real??? Slow down maybe??? But it's a far fetched theory,I am not sure it will work...

You can change the setting and have the camera pan while you are driving. allowing you to see a bit further ahead. But speeding in this game is as bad as doing it in real life anyway, so it's best to not do it in the first place. 40-45 is a sweet spot for fast but safe speed IMO.

Hehe, I've already got used to panning so even 90-100 is ok on the highway.
