Player construction unbreakable failing?
I have my sandbox setup so that player construction is not breakable; yet zombies keep appearing in my second safehouse, the first one seems to be fine. So my question is, has anyone else experienced this? To me it seems to be the crafted door they get through. Do I have to be standing IN my safehouse for it to be indestructible, or outside, when I craft it, does/should it matter?
Edit: I should note, the door isn't destroyed, they just appear to walk through it. I also have a crate that's not behaving properly. It's full of stuff and I can walk through it :/.

I'v experienced in some place the same issue (louisvile 12328x1616 construction lot).
Two entrances, fully blocked by a wall. Sleep once, wake up attacked by Zs.I did run near the two entrances to check them before I die; Still up and not damaged.
I did the wall right before sleeping and it's damn close so it's not like z would respawn or move on the overmap while I sleep.
I think the game rarely fail to recognise a wall for pathing purpose when outside of the field of view/sleeping.
(I wasn't using door, only wall)
I do not have any advice solving this tho, the second time I tried, zombie couldn't get in (and I did the same wall).

If you can walk through a crate it's probably in front of a window.

It is; does the fact I can walk through it mean a zed could too?

I literally replaced the safehouse's front door with a crafted one, so it couldn't be broken through. The original door had been destroyed by zeds while I was clearing the area. I'm thinking the way the door is placed is the culprit; like one side is coded for indestructible, the other is just normal? I don't see any other way it could have been breached, as it was closed and still in place.

Windows do allow you to phase trough anything in front of it (both side). Obviously, zombies will do the same. If you were thinking they couldn't get trough, well, now you know what happened.

Interesting, so 3 crates to block windows from zombies?

I've seen some wierdness from time to time. One place I like to fortify is the "riparian" restaurant in riverside. In one playthrough, I knocked out the stairs to the second floor, and then eventually wanted to cover the whole area where the stairs had been with floors (to make a storeroom).

it got super wonky. zombies on the first floor could just walk and suddenly teleport to the 2nd floor, even though there were NO stairs. They behaved like they were walking up invisible stairs. I removed all the floors, it stopped.

Also, when standing on those floors over where the stairs has been, my character experienced weather like they were outside the building. got cold from snow, wet from rain. I heard outdoors noises unmuffled (birds, etc) after removing the floors, it stopped.

The number of crates is irrelevant. Any tile in front of a windows can be walked on.

So this pattern won't stop zombies from crawling through a window?

BBBWBBB
XXCCCXX

Where B=brick, W=window, C=crate, X=void

No, it won't. Also,
BBBWBBB
XXXCXXX
this pattern won't stop them too.

If you want to block a windows, you need to either barricade it, destroy the windows/wall with a sledge and rebuild a wall, or build 3 wall around either tile next to the window on either side.
XXXBXXX
XXBXBXX
BBBWBBB
Hand made player construction can be destroyed tho, so if they hear some noise and try to investigate they can slam on it and destroy it. But at least if your best to close by you will wake up from the noise and have some time to prepare or walk around and kill them.

Side note, it's more convenient to barricade it from the inside but you could do it botrh side, up to 4 plank each side (stop at 2 planks each side if you still want to see trough the window)

Actually, in my sandbox I have player construction set to indestructible. I also just found out that the player crafted door only works one way. So, if you craft a door to keep zombies out, be sure to stand on the side you want safe, ie: in the house, when you craft and place the door. If you stand outside, they can get in, but not out lol.

Is your safehouse cleared out of corpses? You might be experiencing them same thing I might also be experiencing. Reanimated zeds.

Yeah they're definitely cleared of corpses, I even bleached all the floors. I literally watched one crawl over a crate to get in. It's like Oragepoilu stated, need to block the windows via a specific pattern:

BBBWBBB
BCBVBCB
VCCCCCV

B= Brick wall, W=Window, C=Crate, V=Void outdoor space

So 7 crates to block access to one window. Might be able to do it with 5, but the extra width should ensure no entry, to an unboarded window if player construction cannot be destroyed is set in your sandbox settings.
Oragepoilu Sep 22, 2022 @ 12:16pm
If you have this,
BBBWBBB
BVBVBVB
VVVVVVV
Then you only need one crate.
BBBWBBB
BVBVBVB
VVVCVVV
( Or 3 crates if you have a flat wall like in my previous post)

You (or a zombie, it's the same) cannot path in a diagonal.

You don'y need that much tbh. Just fence the single crate in front of the window. That should stop zeds from crawling in altogether for now.
