keep falling off roofs and can't find a way to make railings

i am trying to find a way to make simple wooden railings to keep my people from falling off roofs. is that not in the game or do i just need to steal them from other houses? kinda annoying i have to build Walls around my staircase just to keep from breaking a leg in game

Fences exist, they need like 2 Carpentry or something to make and will stop you from flying off the edge if you build them. I think you can also attach sheet rope climbs on certain spots and it will save you if you accidentally press E or whatever, instead of vaulting over to your death you'll just climb down.

I know at least one person who nailed a sheet rope to every fence around his rooftop garden to prevent such a thing happening, lol.

They look ugly as sin though. I think you can build metal ones which look like railings and chainlink fences, kinda, using the Metalworking skill but it's a lot more resource intensive. You can also make barbed wire fences which look a bit nicer but barbed wire is annoying to get a hold of too. Your only real option is to build fences along the edges. Not railings, sadly. Maybe one day.

I don't see a lot of mods for adding new types of wall and structure to be built, so imagine maybe it's really hard to mod that stuff in? No clue. I would love a nice clean buildable railing though.

Low fence is the best we have for a railing right now. (just be careful with a long E button push near the fence or running while near the fence edge...you WILL vault over.)

Other option is to get one of those tile mods that allow more building options.

Be wary while sprint also, not sure if you know, but sprinting at vaultable objects, depending on whats in your hands, will make you vault over them - given this is part of your issue. Nearly snapped my legs accidentally vaulting over the guard railing of the stairs on the first floor catwalk up to the guard towers at the louisville military checkpoint last night, due to sprinting up the stairs and accidentally running directly into one of the guard rails for a split second, lols.

I personally prefer to construct a parapet out of shop counters or steel counters.. looks much cleaner, no chance of accidentally climbing across, and gives you storage space, but each one weighs 20 so its a major effort to put in place.
