How does roofing work?

So I am building a wood house in the forest by the river and I can’t seem to figure out how roofs work? Is there no wood roof option? I figured out walls and doors and floors but how exactly do I put like a floor above me to prevent weather from coming in

you first have to build stairs and then put floor down. then your level below has a roof.

You have to build a staircase in order to put a "roof" over your house. The roof will just be the standard wooden floor you construct.

So the stares just builds a roof over my entire home or do I have to then place wooden flooring as the roof once I get up there?

Once you get to the top of the stairs you have to lay the flooring down to make the roof. Kind of like you're building another floor.
