Of course it's going to seem like it's never ending- Those tanks hold up to 24,000 gallons. Think of how many times you'd have to fill your car just to make a dent in the supply.

To answer your question, it's not infinite in the game, and there is also a mod that will tell you how much gas is in any tank in the game

a gallon was something around 3.5l right? regardless of that... thats quite a lot considering how many gassations are on the map

You won't live long enough to deplet 1 gas station. I'm doubt there is any player in PZ history who depleted at least one of them.

makes sence but i could honestly imagine the fuel can evaporate during the time

You can set the gas station level from almost empty to full capacity in the options.

In real life, petrol would be bad within 12 months if kept in stable, sealed conditions, 6 months if not sealed - Zomboid doesn't apply this, most post apocalypse media (books/TV/films etc) don't either. It is one of those little things that they ignore for drama and action I suppose.

I had 4000 units stored via the fuel API mod on one save (ten huge metal drums around my base). Once I stored it, I carried on refueling at the same patrol station (that I had been using for months prior), so they hold a hell of a lot.

But, but in Battlefield Earth jet fuel was still perfectly fine thousands of years after an alien (well they looked exactly like humans except they were on stilts) invasion. Are you telling me Hollywood doesn't do its research?!
You can change how much fuel gas stations have when creating a game. "Normal" amount is default for Apocalypse mode. According to wiki, "Normal" option should be around 500 to 700 units of fuel (gas cans hold 8 units according to wiki, assuming that's without any traits if that even can change the amount)

Gonna try and see how much fuel I can get on Apocalypse, from 1-2 stations at least. Updating when done!

Edit: Someone else's test that I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/optrpl/how_much_gas_in_a_4152_gas_station_gas2go_in/

DEAR GOD! almost 100000 units on a SINGLE big gasstation

You can also make them infinite (like they used to be long time ago) in sandbox settings when making a new game if you don't want them to ever empty

i mean... how long do you play on a map to use 100000 units of gas in a SINGLE big gasstations
Synizer May 13, 2022 @ 5:28am
i honestly doubt anyone plays that long on one map

Fallout New Vegas might be one of the only games I've seen directly address this. The Boomers recover a pre-war B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber with your help. How do they fuel it, post-apocalypse? They grow corn in their airfields, and they have a refinery in the back to convert it into biodiesel. You can even use any corn at a workbench to make fuel for your flamethrowers. Just don't shoot any guns inside their refinery. See the fumes? It'll actually explode, which is a fun hidden detail.
