Project Zomboid
Fever randomly killed me? (Not zombified)
It was a day old character so no big deal, but I don't know what caused it. I'm playing with about 50 mods so I mean it could be related to that but just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

For reference, all i did the day before I died was cook and eat about 9000 calories of stew cause I was trying to clean out the refrigerator and gain weight. Everything was fully cooked so I don't think it was food illness. My character was an alcoholic but I was playing '♥♥♥♥♥'s green fire' mod and not the 'more traits' one that kills you if you go through too much withdrawal, so that wasn't it either. I haven't a clue. No bites, didn't zombify when I died.

Corpses near you?
When you hear the flies, that's mean you are risking to get disease from rotting corpses.
If you were hipocondriac (spell check) mabe that could have killed you, I have died of a cold/fever before.

dont think that was it, was inside when it happened.

This actually might have been related; I was playing with dynamic traits and started severely underweight, which in turn gave me the prone to sickness trait (among others poor traits that would be lost when I was at a healthy weight.) I couldn't say for sure.

This has happened to me a few times now as well - getting a fever and dying within less than 24 hours (not related to zombie infection).

This last time, I even used a mod to spawn me antibiotics, painkillers, and sleeping tablets - I still died... in my kitchen...loaded with food, water, and pills. I also use the dynamic traits mod. I had originally taken underweight as well, but after a whole month of carb-loading I overcame this trait.

I am super frustrated. This happens kind of at random. This time I was exercising inside, got a little soaked, and died by the next morning. The medication did nothing to help it, so what am I supposed to do to overcome a fever? I even cheated to survive, with no avail.
Bloody clothes/body can also get you sick I think, I died with a character covered in blood I neglected to wash before. (Unless this is completely coincidental)

well, i do know how to stop getting wet when exercising. remove your clothes and keep a towel in your inventory.
for me, i got sick from food poisoning i think since i was out scaveging meaning it wouldnt be enough time to get sick from corpses decomopsing. i got bit once but immediatly cleaned it with a wipe and bandaged it. when it started to get worse, i made my way back to my starter house thats surrounded by fence and clear of zombies ate plenty, slept alot, drank and took antibiotics and just died. the wound was a scratch and when i was able to remove the bandage with no infection before the last 3 stages.

this death was just so random i had to recheck everything i knew about this moodle to make sure i wasnt missing anything and still came up with nothing.

if u get bit you die, doesnt matter how u clean it unless you've got mods or something making it otherwise.

So just to bring this topic up again because i have experienced the same, but I can say that I was bitten earlier and successfully healed.
So it means, if you got bitten you will inevitably die anyway, correct ? That would explain a lot...

Bite is 100% zombification. Scratch is 7%, and laceration 25%.

Gotta say, the hole in my left shoulder of a jacket is telling of how lucky I was getting mobbed by 5 zeds, I thought I was dead every time
Alright, thanks for the clarification !
Doesn't the fever kill you regardless of what caused it and whatever you do? It's just that before if you catch the sickness in time you'll survive.

I was always under that impression.
