Rotating things
Sometimes with objects picked up, like carpets or bar shelves, i can't rotate them while i'm placing the object, even if the description says i can do it.
Is it a normal thing or am i missing something?

Some items don't have the textures to face the direction you're trying to place. One that comes to mind are the military HAM radios, they will only face 2 out of the 4 directions.
Oh okay, thanks, that explains a lot.
Are there mods that fix these problems?

Not one that exists that I know of. The fix is to add the textures, then put them into the game files (like a mod would). It would require an artist to create them first in order to be used.

go to the placement menu (looks like a box near the bottom of the left hand icon menu ( the one with (Health, Inv,) use TAB to cycle through the options until you get to rotate

keep pressing left mouse button, then move your mouse while pressing left mouse button.

hmm that's weird...i picked up a desk and when i place it down both pieces are facing in a different direction and i can't rotate them which doesn't make sense

This might be due to your character's positioning. If you KNOW you can rotate the desk to any of the 4 directions (many can), I've had issues where I can rotate it like I normally could because one of the second squares is "out of range" of the tile my character is standing on. Try walking around a little in the area to see if that fixes it.

Another work around is to move the placement position to another tile, rotate it there, then actually place the furniture on the tile you want it to go.
