I mean, it does work for Minecraft, kinda. It's a game where mobs and absolute trolls are about the only things you gotta worry about. Zomboid is a slight bit different, because a respawn would destroy ANY progress whatsoever, at least to skills and exp.
What happens in Zomboid if everybody doesn't go to bed? Is there a countdown at night?
Is it like "Didn't go to bed in allotted time? Have fun being ridiculously tired in the time skip"
Or is it "Hey a troll decided to keep the whole server up because he found a safe place and wanted to go for a coffee break?"
Or "Nobody could decide to be unanimous? Have fun all dying tonight?"
I feel like I answered the question, but at the same time didn't. It's actually something I completely forgot to think about and actually curious to see how such a mechanic would play out.
Thanks, that answers the question. Still, I reckon could be expanded upon, if not by the default turn it off or play Minecraft style. Could do the penalty option too I suppose, you know, like I said before, make it more of a countdown or a majority rules kinda thing.
Maybe they'll be removed from MP? Wouldn't make sense keepin' sleep based traits in MP if it'll just get disabled a majority of the time, or not much matters if everybody has to go to bed at 8:00 anyway, lol.
like sleep.
after 24 hours awake you get a permanent debuff : hangover.
to remove it you need to "sleep"
make "sleep" a 10 ingame minute castbar.
if interrupted while channeling (by self or other intruders/zeds or noise/paranoia etc)
you get hangover debuff for another 12 ingame hours. then normal 12 hours til the next permanent debuff.
it's like a penalty to accuracy, combat power etc...
if "sleep" is channeled through, you are 24 hours immune to hangover, after that you get it permanent and need to sleep again.
P.S: the numbers are in no way balanced and just for the example.
(in gameplay it would make more sense not to have such static numbers but to use the actual tiredness value of each character to determine how long someone has to channel sleep or how long you are imune to hangover etc.. also in micture with alcohol exhaustion etc... its not that easy to just have static numbers.)
but thats how i would work it out.
I can see why most servers disable it. I will turn it off on our servers from now on. Currently in MP reading books is kinda painful since there is no time fast forwarding. I wish reading books had an option in the server settings to make them read at 10X speed or something. As they are now, nobody reads books unless they are going AFK for a long time.
Once the event zombies are fixed there will be no reason to have sleep disabled except in niche circumstance that will not require the removal of the trait.
Is that not correct?
I havnt bought the game till MP (and only for MP) and I'd really enjoy if it had not been gentrified in that time.
