Can carry 100 weight, but only pick up 50, why?
As the title says, I've been playing the game mostly in sandbox mode to learn mechanics and stuff and how things work with some on and off apocolypse setting survival to just-- TRY, so I've set the weight limit to as max as options will let m e in sandbox but despite being able to carry about 120kg it only lets me ever pick up 50, how do I fix this?

50 is the 'max' weight the game will allow any character to carry, no matter what you set it to in game. It's sort of hardcoded.

Oh.

Well kinda makes allowing setting default weight to 100 in settings pretty pointless doesn't it? Like, all of the weight options quite pointless.

Cheers for that though, are there any mods that fix this? And I don't mean like infinite weight, i mean as in allow for more than 50kg max?

The answer is "OP has/had a mod that increases max carry encumbrance"; The vanilla game doesn't have a setting to modify the player's encumbrance in the sandbox settings. But it remains that 50 is the hardcoded limit of weight for the player to carry.

You can increase the value via mods, but it's only visual and you're still limited to 50 max; Having a higher max carryencumbrance than 50 though will prevent you from being overencumbered at 50. And no, There isn't a mod that can change that hard-coded maximum..

But there are some mods, mostly cheat mods that enable infinite carry weight, that can use negative initial values to simulate more/higher carry weight. IE, If you set your base carry encumbrance to -100, then you can carry 150; the 100 it takes to get back to 0, and then the 50 it takes to get to the hardcoded limit.

I got past that limitation by creating a new backpack that lets me carry (with 95% weight reduction) up to 90 of stuff.

item Bag_MilitaryBag1 { Type = Container, DisplayName = WillieSea Backpack, ClothingItem = Bag_SurvivorBag, CanBeEquipped = Back, WeightReduction = 95, Weight = 2, Capacity = 90, Icon = AliceBag, OpenSound = OpenBag, CloseSound = CloseBag, PutInSound = PutItemInBag, BloodLocation = Bag, RunSpeedModifier = 0.98, CanHaveHoles = false, AttachmentReplacement = Bag, }

I then spawn it into the world using a dish rag.

recipe Make WillieSea Backpack { DishCloth, Result:Bag_MilitaryBag1, Time:60.0, }
