Do traps get destroyed over time?
Hello folks,

So, something weird just happened. I decided to try re-arming some of the old mouse traps I'd set up a couple in-game months ago when I set up my base, and noticed that one of the old mousetraps I'd left in a closed room was destroyed, replaced with Scrap Wood. The room has only one entry, and the door's been closed ever since I stopped baiting my mousetraps.

I'm 99% positive that unless zombies have developed teleportation powers and a sick sense of humor, there has been no zombie anywhere near that trap. Previously, one of my Stick Traps also ended up destroyed, but that was after a day of high winds, so I'd just assumed it was destroyed by environmental damage, but this trap was inside, in a concrete room behind a closed metal door.

So, do deployed traps just degrade over time, whether or not they're actually being used?

Yes, traps have health and will get worn out and break eventually. I'm not sure if there is a time factor involved, but there is definitely a usage factor involved as I have gone through traps quite quickly when checking/resetting them every day.

Yes.
If a creature is caught in the trap, it will try to break free. Each time you catch something the trap degrades, and i think each time you rearm the trap as well.
You can test this out the easiest with box traps. Find a place where you now you can catch bunnies. Place down the trap with cabbage or carrot. About from the 3rd till the 10th placement it will likely appear one day when you approach to retrieve it as a scrap wood, planks. Aka it broke down, got destroyed by the animal who managed to free itself.

Huh. That's strange. My next question is: does this mean traps have a chance to catch something even if you don't bait them? Because I hadn't actually put anything in my mousetraps for a very long time.

I think if they are set up they degrade over time too. But i actually never used mouse traps. Aint worth it. Because you need to stay the hell away from it for a while, then come back and find a rat or a mouse, giving you like 10-20 hunger unit of meat.
You go out trap a bunny and you got a meal for 2-5 times. (bunnies can have 130 hunger units!)
