Rosewood Prison?
This might be a slightly spoiler question, but is there anything really valuable in the Rosewood Prison behind all the zombies? Besides the prison itself as a base for a large multiplayer clan.

I've been taking a stab at the prison because I'm missing a few exotic bits of equipment: namely some skill books (Expert Foraging and Intermediate Trapping are nowhere to be found!) and a sledgehammer and probably a few other things I don't even know I want. But I'm not sure if it's a place you're supposed to interact with in single-player, or if I'm unknowingly throwing myself at content that's designed for a group, and if I'd be better off prepping for a voyage to one of the other towns to find the equipment I'm looking for.

left side second floor right at the entrance is an armory full of guns. avoid the rest unless you want the prison as a base, nothing really else in there the guards don't carry guns.

There's a lot of water dispensers, I went there with some friends in a mp game to get them since we didn't have a good water situation at the time. Lots of zombies, not really worth it.

Road Construction Crews often have a sledge, the abandoned Factory near the NW side of the map, just off of the express way, out of 3 new game worlds since the new multiplayer, 2 out of three times i have gotten a sledge around there, as there almost always seems to be a road crew, or 2 near there. either side of the road, near the constructions, and parking lot, or the roads leading into all the houses.

There's just some small armories inside but the main loot area is inside the building to the left of the entrance.

Me and some other people went into the prison loaded to the teeth with firearms and we ran out of ammo for literally nothing gained. I say clearing the prison is more of a bragging right then being something you need to do for a big payday

With the Lab that's nearby at least you can collect a lot of Military Gear. With the prison I say the best place inside is the Canteen. Found a lot of jars lmao

Thanks for the answers. Part of the reason I asked is because the zombies in the prison felt like they were behaving much more like enemies in a Horde Survival scenario than usual: a bunch would emerge into the courtyard, I'd kite and kill those, and by the time I got back to the courtyard, another "wave" was hanging around the entrance ready to emerge.
Maybe it's just because of the building geography.

But I used up at least 20 spears and haven't even gone into the buildings yet, so I'll probably stick a fork in it and come back later.

After taking the prison at least twice in an SP world this is how i setup:

Collect cars, bring planks and nails and finish up the wall and barricade the one window outside the fence. Build an little outpost in the corner of the parking lot and bring some dirt bags and farming equipment, then build some one way stairways with sheet ropes; Settle in. Chip away at the hordes from all sides, start with the front; do not enter into the hallways and go deeper you risk getting killed. instead use M9s, M1911 and get them to enter the outer fence yard where you will suffer little risk and simply melee them. This process takes about 12 days- 3 weeks in game but it is the "safe" option of taking the prison; usually 600-800 zombies inside on apocalypse difficulty. Keen hearing works wonders here, do not use shotguns and rifles they are too loud, highest you should go is M1911/ .45 auto pistol (75 sound radius tiles).

The prison's loot is weak and isn't worth other then being an ok base in an infested part of the game, it's best thing is huge amounts of usable land with an unbreakable wall, however in an long term survival game it's not much in terms of an base. it's far from most towns and rosewood's total loot pool is low compared to other towns; however it is an great location when preparing to raid the military base.

Ok, so here's what I noticed as well. I'm playing this game 'only' for around 130 hours and I decided to clear the whole prison as a challenge basically. Besides the gun stash, that you guys are talking about I noticed, that the prisoners and the prison cells have a LOT of cigarettes. So if you ever feel like you don't know, if your reserve of cigarettes will last long. Here you can stock up till the end of all endgames :).

You do get bragging rights for cleaning it out and making it yours, so there is that. :KentWinning:

As others said apart from the guns there's a few book shelves in the 2F office, but its not really worth fighting yr way in just for that. Better off driving to another towns book store if you're missing a few books, plus u might come across a truck with sledge a long the way.

This armory is easy to plunder using stealth, you might need lure zeds to the north side of the prison to gain access to the armory building without too much hussle. Then, use furniture to block stairs after killing a few zombies below. I went without nails so I've jumped from the 1st floor, luckly I didn't broke my legs xD.

I'm playing with precise or "good hearing" + good memory.

Besides that, as people said, going rambo to clear it, is more of a playthrough challenge, and it sounds like fun.

The only worthwhile loot at that place is the aiming skill. Lol.
I use the prison in my sp playthrough to level my aiming skill.
I only go there once I have a shotgun, lots of shells, and some beta blockers.
With Veteran or Police Officer, I usually can level my aiming skill up to at least level 6. Level 5-ish with other occupations.

Stevasaur, I think you'll need to stick about 600 Forks in it! :D

Clearing the prison is more of a personal accomplishment thing then a worthwhile endeavor. When I did it I went stealthy long blunt (crowbars) and did it over several days, slowly working my way around making sure I didn't get surrounded, and leaving when I got tired. I had zombie population set pretty low and there were still well over 1000 zombies in there, hundreds in the classroom at the very back of the prison alone. The hallway leading back there became a corridor of death and looked pretty impressive at the end.

If you want a place with lots of zombies and better loot I would suggest the mall, also a very fun place to clear.

I am currently playing Rosewood now and found a sledgehammer in an annotated map stash in the bail bonds building.

you can use shotgun to bait them all out than clear it with a molotov and shotty. the armory has a lot of guns and ammo.
