How can I tell if a MOD is causing issues ? (Missing the SKILLS menu ??)

Had no issues for a week or so of playing a new run (Sandbox with some pretty cool mods) For some reason today I see I could not get the 'Right click" display menus.. few minutes later is was ok again but then back and forth.

I realized that going through my characters tabs. all work except for the SKILLS.. its just a black screen, while all other tabs work. When I have that SKILLS tab picked, the right click menus, or the "V" menu wheel (When in or near cars and other lootable items etc.) doesn't work..

Looking at many posts I see many with similar issues, claim its probably a MOD issue ?

MY question : IS there a way to know which one is causing it ? perhaps which needs and update or which is no longer working properly ? It would be a pain to quit, disable all then re-enable one at a time to see the issue.. Also, if I disable MODS, how does that effect your saves or game play that was sort of mod specific ? (Like having a vehicle (Dodge Ram for instance) then disabling that mod, does the vehicle disappear or is it converted to a regular vanilla vehicle etc ?

Not really, no. The only way to figure it out would be to start removing your mods until the issue is gone.

Damn.. You wouldnt happen to know if any new updates to the more popular mods might be the culprit, DO mods auto update, and if not, how do I know when a mod has an update for single player sandbox play ?

I had the same issue, Hunter. Weird part is they were still working yesterday, but when I try to play I also get stacking errors and some things don`t load properly, I also had the same skills menu problem. I'm not sure if you have those mods enabled but I think it has something to do with Cheat Menu and Hydrocraft, I disabled everything, enabled most of my mods, no errors, enabled cheat menu, errors are back, but at least the UIs were loading. I still get stacking errors for some specific item, every time I try to use the item spawner and clear the search box, there they are. So I'm guessing it has something to do with some specific item, and its probably Hydrocraft related, only started getting errors after activating those 2.

I'll keep testing things out, but if you do have those mods, try to disable everything and then reactivating, except for those 2.

Edit: Also answering your question above, yes, mods do auto update.

If the issues are new then you can at least narrow down the likely culprit. Here's how to do it.

Check your steam download page to see if project zomboid is showing up. If not, go into the workshop to one of your random mods, unsubscribe, then resubscribe then back to the download page as it would have prompted a new download and it'll be there now.

When looking at the game in the download list, hovering over it will tell you how long ago the game itself was updated. Seeing as it's been 2 weeks since the last update, that's unlikely to be the issue.

Right clicking on the game will bring up options, select the one that says "view updated items".

This will take you to the workshop page sorted by mods you're subscribed to and sorted in the order that they were most recently updated. The ones at the top are the freshest and the most likely causes for any new issues. Start there.

Hey man, I did wind up solving it after an hour or so.. I did wind up disabling a few of the ones mentioned (including your suggestion) and it did fix the issue. Im glad, because I'm still learning the game and that was a severe handicap to playing and enjoying.

Now If i can only get a couple of my friends for a small co-op game id be set.
