Crouch along walls, fences, or in tree's, basically anywhere that's not near a zombie. When you get noticed, walk away from them (stop crouching, it'll slow you down). Try not to attract more if you can, but you most likely will, and that's ok. Stay calm and keep walking away.

Lead them through alley's, around buildings/houses, over fences, and through tree's. Only burst run if they are going to grab you, some zombies will try and cut off your escape path so you might need to do a short burst run to get ahead of them and not get grabbed or trapped.

Just keep trying to cut off their line of sight until you are safe, then make your way back to wherever you were while crouching and avoid more zombies.

It can be tough early on! Your main goal is to break line of sight and watch the sound you're making.
Try to duck around buildings, or climb through a window if possible, or duck behind tree. Sound is very important, once you've broken LOS, try to sneak as much as possible.

once zombies spot you they can see VERY far away so the only way to lose them is to break the line of sight by going behind building and then going 45 degrees to the side once they lose vision or going to the forest and losing them there

Run in forest then use stealth mode to lost them, run in house and go out from different side in stealth mode ofc not all zombies will lost ur track but it's better than run from them in open area where u just make more trackers after u

If it feels unbalanced, you can change these settings in "Sandbox". But how it works, is that zombies have a 6 second memory from when they last see/hear you. Hugging walls, darting around buildings, etc seems to help. They're also easily distracted by doors; if they lose sight of you, and there is a door, they'll attack the door.

Also, 90% of the time you should be in crouch mode.

Nah not 90% of the time only if there zone that u didn't look good, and u can see hordes of zombie to fast escape.

When trying to lose them in a forest, use "walk to" from the right-click menu, to auto path around trees. Zombies not only lose line of sight, but get slowed by pathing through all the trees you zig zag around.

Unlike other stealth games, breaking LOS and being silent is not sufficient to lose zombies, because they have supernatural homing capabilities. It's not a bug, it's a feature. *coughs*

Retanaru is the only who explains it properly:

Step 1 Find an axe or a sturdy piece of water pipe
Step 2 Smash a couple of heads
Step 3 ?? Enjoy the silence

There is an absolutely amazing video that shows you how to use buildings to thwart zombies, whether it's one or 1000. Basically the process goes like this: You snuggle up nice and tight against a house while crouched, run along one side, and then pull a 90 degree turn on the outside face of the house, stopping after a window or door. once you do this, the zombies will lose their pathing ability to you. Stopping for at least 3 seconds works best, so you'd have to run out ahead of the horde before attempting this manoeuvre. Ones that spill through windows and reach the adjacent wall before you complete the 3 second pause will still see you. It's actually pretty ingenious how it works, and you only need 1 level of sneaking to pull it off.
