Move furniture to barricade?
One obvious noob thought I had was: I need to sleep but Zombies can come through windows and doors. Can I not just move the tables and chairs in front of the doors to create a makeshift barricade?

Just use rope hammer and nails from 2floor window, break stairs with sledgehammer.

Sure, that works. But still, in the zombie apocalypse, wouldn't you expect furniture barricades everywhere?

You can do this sort of, use the "pickup" option and move a couch/bed/table in front of the door you want blocked. You will need to take all the pieces with you if there are mutiple to be able to "place" in a new location. Large items weigh a ton so beware.

Its more involved then just pushing something into place, we lost that ability to move stuff physically years ago. Every action is in a menu now sadly.

Yep then use TV cuz zombie can break all other furniture like couch, chair, table, but they can't break TV maybe already fixed.

I have been experimenting with this - picking up those multi-tile (2 or 4 tile) outdoors tables like picnic table or white plastic tables and placing them outside of houses in front of windows to protect the windows from being attacked by random wandering zombies, but for some reason when you do this, the table tile that is directly next to the window becomes passable through. I don't know the reason for this but it doesn't make any sense.

Nope one of the recent patches/updates fixed it.
So it does not work anymore. Also barricades are mostly useless. all kinds of.

I never do that, I usually just put up boards, put up metal sheets outside, and then build log walls, since you can do that with no carpentry skill. I've never found a sledgehammer in any of my playthroughs so taking out the stairs isn't an option for me. I don't usually have issues with zombies coming in my place, whether I'm playing Apoc or easier custom settings.

I believe this was done to prevent players and zombies from getting stuck in and around windows. Objects directly next to the window no longer have collision.

Furniture items in general that are auto-generated by the map are not destructible by zombies until you move them. Once you move them they can be destroyed.

Some of the full-size furnitures like bookcases and wardrobes will also completely block the windows. Just make sure to remove curtains beforehand, as you cannot place anything non-climbable on top of those.

How to get the pickup option to show up? I seem to be missing that step.

Right click on the tile?

There's a menu on the left with a drawer icon, hover to it do display various options to pick, place, rotate and disassemble in-world items (not limited to furniture). Use R to cycle between the items in the same cell.

Then use cars as barricades and live in empty places like farms, forest houses etc
