Why can't I play as the Red panda?

Edit: okay I stand half corrected. You can find a costume that makes you look like them, however I have not seen any of this yet and you can't technically play as them but it's still something.

Also my gameplay so far has been this: run run run, can't run anymore, realize you can outwalk the zombies.

I walked for 30 minutes down a road leading a massive hoard, it was so very silly. This entire game went from intense to boring, to comical. Amazing game-play.

So you walked in a straight line for 30 minutes and expected something not silly to happen? Tell me what game you've played where you can walk in a straight line for 30 minutes and not have it be silly. I'll wait.

I've only just gotten into the game, but watched a lot of vids for tips and pointers. The default zombies in this have really strong memory and awareness than you'd typically expect. You have to use buildings and obstacles to lose them. If you're walking out in the open a lot, you likely won't do much more than just attractive more unless your speed, athletics, and sneaking are pretty high.

I think it's supposed to be a raccoon, but to sort of answer your question it seems like you can find mascot suits rarely on zombies.

The game is difficult yes, I recommend watching some videos to get the hang of it.

Also, you can play as the raccoon, I found the full costume the other day.
