Zombie trees?
So...played with my friend and he got infected and killed by a tree. I dont understand why that is in the game.
He run trough a forest, got a scratch at a tree and and got a infection that killed him.
It couldnt be the normal wound infection as it was markes "RED" as infection, not yellow"Lish" like standard wound infections, second wound infections dont turn you into a zombie.

Or does EVERYONE turn into a zombie once killed even if with bullets? I remember car crashes where I died and it simply told me "your rat food now" with a white /red/ black skull not the green one.

Can trees and window glass really still infect you with the virus....ok yeah well, the window glass, ye I know blabla a zombie tripped over it, now there is zombie blood on it...ok I give you that point.

But a tree. In the middle of nowhere. No zombies around ever. That one tree, with that one twig exactly that twig out of 2,5 milliarden twigs in this forest had a infected survivor scratching it?

Is this actually a possiblity or just bad/ sloppy coded? Maiby even intended?. Otherwise, it had to be a bug.

PS: He just respawned before it happen, no prior wounds caused by zombies. Fresh character, about 15 hours old.
Infection is set to 12 hours so if he was hit or wounded by a zombie (which he wasnt), he would have been extremly sick by that point already. He was fully healthy, no debuffs.

Is this like just a lazy thing like: "game not checking the SOURCE of the wound", so all scratches have this flat (dont quote me on that one--) 12%? infection chance? I never had a zombie infection from a car accident f.e.

My therory he wont believe: He ran trough the forest right into a zombie that "scratched" him while running past, as its almost impossible to make out zombies in the forest especially if its dark.
Can zombies scratch you with theire fingernail when you bump into them WITHOUT stunlocking, so while you ran past some trees you would think: "Damn, stupid tree!"?

Regular infection and zombie virus are two different things. Infection in the wound marked as bright red means that it was not treated in time for disinfecting wound to handle it. After that only the antibiotics can save the character, and the longer one waits to administer them, the harder it will hit. If you just forget about changing the dirty bandages, a festering infection underneath can easily kill the player, just like an extreme food poisoning or poisonous berries/muchrooms can.

Zombie virus is only transmitted from zombie attacks, and it does not telegraph itself until its incubation period, after which the character steadily becomes anxious and only then queasy.

ohhhhhhhhh so it was changed? I remember having a red infection just a few hours ago and then I disinfected the wound and it healed, turned to yellow and then vanished.

Does a red infected wound mean your dead? Cause I didnt die and got healed with food and disinfections while having the weak immun system trait.
Or is it just higly likely to loose health and die and I was just lucky?

So even glass from windows has 0% virus?.

Thank you nice to know!

No , I guess it was a bug. Stuff like that happens. Just needed to know if trees etc can infect you. Maiby he just died of a regular wound infection.

Are you forced to die from a red (untreaded wound infection) if you dont find antibiotics, or can you still survive if you treat a red (heavy) wound infection afterwards with food and time, disinfections?

It essentially means that it is untreated, and the longer it stays that way, the harder it will be to heal. Infection effects accumulate over time and so it the counter from antibiotics. Orange means that it is treated and on its way to recovery.

It seems that way, even if a zombie crawls into the window and lashes at you causing a wound, or if you hurt yourself while stubling upon a fence completely covered in blood, it still counts as regular wound that is safe as long as you treat it in time.

so red just means untreaded and rest, disinfection can still cure it, antibiotics just make it faster and better. Thanks for all the advice!
