for anyone having this issue, change your microphone frequency in your device settings and restart your game should fix it. I had to change mine from DVD quality to CD quality and it started picking up my microphone.

How do you change your microphone frequency? I've been searching online but haven't found out how.

go into sound, right click on your mic, properties, advanced tab, then it should show default format and then on the drop down menu it should show something like "1 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" change that around to see if you can get it working.

Sound? Where is that?

just type sound settings in your windows search bar

Ah. At first I fiddled with a lot of options in Sound Settings to no avail. I found it eventually, everything was just worded differently than anything mentioned. I'll see if that worked.

Dang make sure you are changing the frequency of the correct microphone, when I changed from DVD to CD quality on my Blue Yeti it fixed it.

I only have one mic so not much to mix up there. One of my friends was wondering if it had something to do with it being an audio jack headset instead of a USB port one. Which type is your mic? Perhaps this game just doesn't pick up audio-jack headsets?

Currently having this issue on the Steam Deck.

I don't know how to change the mic frequency on Linux so I'm just kinda stuck.

EDIT: After tinkering with the audio settings in-game it seems to have fixed itself..? Now the visualizer shows up no problem. Have yet to test it in-game, will report back when I do!

Having the same problem here, and Zomboid is the only game with this issue--my mic works fine with every other game I've tested. Tried lowering the frequency and it didn't do anything. There are only like 3 results for this problem on google, so I'm hoping someone here can find a solution.

EDIT: So after I posted this, I restarted Steam. This somehow fixed the issue.
