Project Zomboid

workshop item is different than servers.
I was able to play earlier today got off work. went to re open my server and i got this. everytime.
i tried :
uninstalling and reinstalling every mod. (un subbed and re subbed)
i tried removing every mod and re adding them to the server. still nothing
i tried a new server slapped the mods in manually nothing.

if the devs see this PLEASE offer us more information so we know whhat mods are the problem cause as it is currently i a basic user cannot figure out what mode is not working or what id even need to try to do to get it to work. if anyone has any ideas feel free to post. if you know how to fix the issue break it down step by step.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

similar issue here, it appears to be related to when a mod in your modlist gets updated. i think it might have to do with the save having an older version of the mod instanced into it needing a map reset.

that being said there is something you can try. unsubscribe to all the loaded mods you had on the server, then go into the steamapps/workshop folder and delete "appworkshop_108600.acf" as this is the manifest file for your installed workshop mods, then go to the content folder and delete "108600". shut steam down and start it back up, then resubscribe to all of your mods. this hard forces steam to reinstall all the subbed mods

so it appears its definitely an issue with the workshop mods not getting synced right when a mod is updated, but i have found a workaround that should help. the instructions to do this are a little convoluted, so ill try to explain this as best as possible.

0. firstly, keep note of what mods you want to use on your server, either mentally or physically as your gonna be hopping them around a lot.

1. go into your steamapps directory (by default its usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps) and go to the workshop folder then the content folder. then go to 108600, which is the steamID for project zomboid.

there will be a list of folders with numbers as their names. these are all of the steamID's of the mods you have installed. keep this open.

2. now open file explorer again and go to C:\Users\(your computer username)\Zomboid. there should be a mods folder there. open it.

3. now, go back to the first window with all the folders in workshop\content\108600. what your going to need to do is open each folder, click on its mods folder, then put whatever is there in the mods folder located in C:\Users\(your computer username)\Zomboid.

4. once you have done this, go into your workshop subscriptions and unsubscribe from all of the mods you copied over (usually that means all of the mods you have subscribed to, if you want to archive them for later put them all in a collection). delete or otherwise get rid of all of the folders in the workshop\content\108600 folder to make sure it doesnt load any workshop mods.

5. start project zomboid, and then go to host and then go to your server settings. remove all steam workshop mods (they should display as numbers now that you have unsubscribed from them). now go to the mods folder and then re-enable the mods you originally had. save the settings and then start the server.

this (hopefully) should get the server running again. your not out of the woods yet though, as other players can no longer automatically download the required mods, and workshop subscriptions of said mods wont work anymore.

6. take everything in the Zomboid\mods folder and put it into a .zip file or similar so you can distribute it to your friends. find a filesharing service such as google drive or mega and upload the zip file of the mods to there. share the link to anyone else that will join.

7. have the other players download the .zip file of all the mods and have them unsub from all of the server's mods, then empty the .zip file into their C:\Users\(your computer username)\Zomboid\mods folder.

hopefully if you have followed all of these steps correctly your server should be back up and running, with your friends on it too. you can still connect using the usual steam invite method, or whatever method you prefer.

hope this helps

Is this a issue the developers have to fix? I have been pulling my hair out trying to resolve this issue. Having to manually grab every mod and then upload it and give it to every player would be very annoying to do.

It's not really a problem on our end. Either it's a config issue or something going wrong with the Steam workshop. It's similar to some people getting missing files from Steam's CDN when we uploaded them.

Kinda a pita.

I'd really not recommend using mods, given almost none of them are made for build 41.60.
Right i was just expressing how id like it if there was more information for us users. like it specified what mods are having the issue. cause as it is now it just says work shop item version is idfferent from server. without any way to find out which workshop item it is.

Every mod that gets updated after you first loaded it to the server.
Which means mods don't update correctly on the server side. No information is given anywhere on the internet how to update files in server, re-adding them in .ini doesn't do ♥♥♥♥. Couldn't find anything in logs too that could help determine the problem. And it's on game side, not Steam.

Mods that got updated recently are Arsenal 26, FIlibuster Rhymes' Used Cars and Better Lockpicking, on my side ofc.

Turning off those mods obviously helps, but now you don't have the mods you want. Not the best solution to the problem.

try disabling/enabling UPnP option in server settings
shitass Dec 11, 2021 @ 11:19am
go to "...\steam\steamapps\workshop" copy the file named "appworkshop_108600.acf" then go to "...\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\steamapps\workshop" and paste it there
DySFunction Dec 11, 2021 @ 11:28am
i had the same issue. what i did :

error #1 "workshop item diff......"

-i favorited all my mods on the workshop
-unsubbed from everything
-deleted all the mods in the mods folder, not the folder itself
(my arsenal mod for britas was out of date)
(i found this out by sorting my mods by last updated prior to just deleting the contents of the mods folder)
-i then went to the workshop selected favorites, and i clicked subscribe one at a time on that page (lil button on the right corner of each mod on the list) i clicked one at a time monitoring the download progress at the bottom of the screen waiting for each one to complete before starting the next.

Bam server booted, but my client wouldnt

next error ".....lua....arsenal...."

- long story short after testing each mod on 9 pages of mods, it was the "Mod Options" that was throwing the error.

i hope this can help someone.
