[FIXED] Help How to "force-update" mods on local hosted server? "Workshop item version different than server's"
Fixed by devs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It happened twice now. I got my server up, fully modded, spent some hours in it, until suddenly, mods get updated on my client when a new version is released on the workshop, but it seems the server won't react the same way. Then, the typical error pops up whenever I try to boot the server after updating: "Workshop item version different than server's", which means the server is outdated. So here I am, trying to figure out a way for the server to "force" the update on these mods. It's truly a pain in the ass.

P.S.: Yes, I've already tried wiping out all PZ workshop files from my PC and also unsubscribing/resubscribing to them.

You're a god. Thank you
EDIT: Yes, this worked for me. However, I wrote an extensive guide based on this original fix.

I'd say make sure to double check the folder locations, it can be confusing but it should work 100% since you're forcing the game to read an updated "checklist" of the mods installed (every appXXX_XXX.acf works by validating the archives, even if the archives themselves weren't present, it tells Steam/Steam games that they're there), but other than that, I can't help you further :steamsad:

I think none of your mods have a problem, that's what I used to think, but if one mod's not working/broken it'll simply crash your game or straight up won't even work.
And yes, replace the file.

move mods files from "...\steam\steamapps\workshop\content\108600"
to "...\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\steamapps\workshop\content\108600"

THIS fixed it for me. Seems that the 108600 folder still had old mod files in it. I deleted ALL the mod folders in .\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\steamapps\workshop\content\108600" and

pasted in the ones from

"...\steam\steamapps\workshop\content\108600"

....and this fixed my issues. Thanks!

So, this is working for me, as the host, to get the server back on. However, anytime one of my players tries to do this change, the folders do not exist for them. They are unable to connect as it throws the same error "Workshop item version different than server's". Any solution for them?

Same issue here, I'm currently testing stuff with some friends, I will let you know if I manage to get them to connect. I will make them follow the same steps.

That's cause they didn't try to host a server. These files generate when a server is created. I also had this exact same issue with a friend of mine. Just send him your appworkshop_108600.acf file (assuming you both are trying to play exclusively together, same mods insalled) located in \Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid\steamapps\workshop and tell him to paste it there.
