Character Build question/anlysis: what to improve/remove/change?
So i've been trying to get some kind of build for a while on MP server. Not sure what exactly is my point.

Right now what i'm trying to do is Repairman with usage of spears.

What negatives I took: Slow Reader, Clumsy, short sighted, Weak stomach, prone to illness, smoker, Conspicious, Slow healer, High Thirst, Thin skinned

What Positives I took: Dextrous, Outdoorsman, baseball player, Gymnast, fast learner, Handy, Athletic.

What I'm not sure about is Handy, it gives me 125% boost with repairman. Is it really that worth? I took Baseball player because of crowbar for leveling maintenance during combat. But i'm sure there are better options like foraging and chopping trees with stone axes.

Are there any opinions of what you would improve/remove/change? I'm still dumbo in this game.

imo clumsy not really worth it, yes it only increase a little chance to trip when sprint over fence but when you desperaty flee from zombies it can cost your life.

Pacifist will lower your xp gain for combat skills by 25% but if you pick fast learner each will counter end up with a small plus for xp gain so it's a good and safer choice.

I'm not a fan of smoker trait either, seems a little annoy just to find enough cigarettes supply for long term and it'll be hard to find in later game stage especially in MP where many player will choose this trait which they though it's a free point.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda got used to clumsy because if you just come close enough to fence and press E then you won't trip at all

I'll second this. You won't get as much of a boost to combat skills as with your current setup, but you'll still be above the base xp amount and come out with more trait points.

Handy is great, not just for maintenance, but the additional HP to the structures you make if you're going to be making your own base.

Not with default settings. You can use sandbox settings to give you more points to use which does allow you to create a pretty beefy character. It doesn't make it quite like L4D, but it still can be pretty beefy.

It really depends on the setup. You can try some with fire officer and focus on axes. You can use Fireman axe till lv 5 axes then just switch to hand axes. It's strong as hell, most of zeds are just oneshotted because of crits.

The best method to play that way is configue in sandbox mode, set zombie to slow shamble with poor heard&smell. You start off with either police officer or veteran than you look for guns which easy found at police car (which normally spawn many ammo too). Now you can go shoot'em up!

Or you can start as burglar + add more xp multiplier, this way you'll be able to hotwire cars from start and can travel to farm guns&ammo better. But you'll suck at shooting until you get lv 2-3 in aiming.

If you want to survive longer you can set zombie to slow and set their polulation to low, maybe turn off the virus transmission for more time to learn the game mechanic .When you survive better and want more challenge you can adjust difficult in new playthrough.

For the trait that make you last longer maybe thick-skin is what you looking for if you know you'll end up getting hit alot when fighting, it'll reduce chance to get injury when you get hit animation from zombie. Many pros will tell you its not worth the point because they already master in fighting mechanic and didn't get hit at all unless they get surprise hit from blindspot, or meta event just screw them like the bloody chopper or random gunshot&scream which direct horde to them.

Unlucky is Free points. Lucky and Unlucky do not work currently in MP. The Devs plan on removing the traits from MP some time in the future

Smoker is kind of a pain if other people are also Smokers but if it's just you and maybe one other person you should be fine.

Slow reader is a real bottleneck to skill gains in MP as you can't Fast Forward time. You'll spend most of your time reading in order to not massively grind for skills.

Handy is only really Worth if you're going to be using Spears and/or Doing a lot of construction. The boost to Maintenance will help you maintain your Spear Health and have them last longer. With things like Short Blunt you're fine with the normal rate of Maintenance XP gain. The 100 HP for Wood Constructions is really nice if you're building your own base somewhere or doing massive modifications to an already existing location. If you are just changing furniture in a location then I more recommend investing into Metal Barricades to keep the location secure.

Because you are taking Weapon Skills use Pacifist. Pacifist only lowers XP gains for Weapon Skills by 75% so if you have 1 skill in a weapon like what you have on your build you come out even and with more points you can spend on.

Clumsy increases your trip chance when going over fences and can injure you so I wouldn't recommend it.

Outdoorsman reduces your chances of getting a cold massively but all you have to do is keep yourself warm and dry by either staying indoors or proper clothes and you should be good to go.

I would recommend Sandbox for that experience. Make weak Sprinters with Immunity to the Zombie Virus and Increased gun and Ammo loot spawns.

Pick Police Officer+Brave or Veteran and start blasting away

On patch 41.66 which is coming very soon then lucky and unlucky won't be available.

About slow reader: it really depends of what settings are you using on MP. You can leave it vanilla or just make reading time shorter(Which a lot of servers do because of reading everything all over again)

About Pacifist: I wrote that i'm going mostly use spears, so pacifist is "free points" but the amount of XP i'm going to get because of pacifist is going to be small. For mainly short blunt usage: That's okay from what I know.

I really appreciate your opinion

Pacifist lowers weapon XP *to* 75%, not by 75%. Meaning only a 25% decrease. Since it's additive, having Fast Learner (30% increase) means weapon XP is still at a 5% increase even before taking the bonus for starting weapon skills into account. So you come out way more than even by taking a weapon skill at the start, you get the full skill bonus, plus the 5%.

go for 10/10 fit/str and at that point you will be able to beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of like 10 zeds with a rolling pin from the get go. (as long as you kite ofc) No need to sandbox anything you can run this build pretty cheap with bare minimum negative traits, just won't have any QoL traits on you. Or you can stack a few more negative traits and get some luxury stuff like fast learner or something.

I'm not familiar with kite yet, but i'll try :reexcited:

For combat just remember to turn on outlines. if you aggro zeds then you can wait for them to come sloser and try to form a line to let them walk one after another. After that the whole combat looks like:

- Wait for them to come into your range(you will see green outline) and hit
- If you feel like 2 zeds are way too close then you can just push one and hit another one or just walk away a little and repeat.

Also remember to look around yourself if you have time for it.
