I'd also suggest turning transmission to saliva only (so only bites can turn you) or off entirely.
Turning zombie memory down also helps make losing them a bit more forgiving.

Set loot to very rare. Set locked car and house to very high, but set the car condition to very good (repairing a car is a chore). Set farming and freezer effectiveness to very high (resilient plant, high yield, etc). Set meta events to very high (except for helicopter event). 1hour=1day.
Basically, i prefer to streamline the boring chores and focus on the exploration instead.
