So..I wonder why you presume that after your character caught fire. Died of it.
Your gear, which was on your character, would not burn in the fire?
(Especially since all burned zombies have no loot on them, when you kill em with fire.)

Not all gear and stuff you carry should be flammable. I guess that doesnt matter in game.

Yes some should melt into something completely unusable.

Haven't experimented with many items, but when I throw corpses on a fire it seems like everything in the container (i.e. corpse) gets destroyed. I don't think any items are immune to this, but maybe some containers are fireproof. Your player, as you found out, is not :)

throw a sledgehammer into fire see how it goes

Is it immune to fire? What about if you put it in a corpse? I would experiment but I only have one xD

The laws of physics, even an iron or steel sword would take damage from excessive temperatures.
But iron doesn't burn, does it?
No, but it would be damaged, become brittle and break easily, and would no longer be worth anything.
Furthermore, things made of steel deform when exposed to excessive temperatures.
Physics.

Except bodies would be reduced to basic elements far before metal got even close to hot enough to deform from a fire fueled only from human remains.
Physics.

This dude is just trying to figure out if his ♥♥♥♥ is gone and here we are debating if human fuel melts steel weapons. It doesn't, and Project Zomboid is an inside job.

you all realize we are talking realistic flame phsyics in a game where concrete buildings and healthy trees catch fire; and yet use realism as an argument smh. Maybe instead of debating over the fire physics there should be an option for drop all loot or not in the settings.

Well he is like wearing clothes. Carrying certain items...books...paper...something that has wood in it, or plastic?

It is not necessary for the metal to be deformed or break it is enough for the plastic parts to melt or the wooden parts to burn.

Weeell seems like this topic went off into the deep end :D Yes i was curious how the game treats gear and inventory in a fiery death. I guess it's all gone. That said, there are multiple pieces that shouldnt get destroyed when your character catches on fire like the crowbar and other solid metal pieces.. I cant find anything so i'm guessing everything i had on me is gone.
