Secondly, if the water is indeed on, have you moved the sinks at all?
Trough the game, "easy way to do things" start going down. General water supply gets cut off, and Electricity will at some point, be turned off as well, meaning you need to start cooking food either in a grill with firewood or get a generator and stock gas for it to run electricity.
If you're playing apocalypse mode, Water usually gets turned off first, for me last play trough, it was on day 4. Im glad I managed to stock up with soda bottles worth of soda to drink until I got pots full of rain water to boil and drink. Now I have about thirty liters of water stocked up and wont run short of things to drink at least for fifty days until I can figure out the water catching system.
Electricity is another matter. Once it turns off, you wont get it back until you find a generator, and have at least lvl 3 electricity skill and read the generator book, OR if you're electrician. That means your fresh food is going to rot away before you can get electricity back running.
sinks toilets bathtubs, hold a finite amount of water even if the supply has gone off.
Thats why you can still find water on bathrooms and kitchen that havent been raided yet.
Start filling bottles on every new house that you raid before disasembling bathrooms and kitchens and get yourself a water dispenser from an office. with carpentry skill, dont know how much, you will be able to build rain collectors. you can boil that water and refill the dispensers.
wash clothing and yourself on the rain. Use tainted water for farming.
If you put the collector on the floor above the sink within 1 tile distance of the sink on the floor below, you can plumb it with a pipe wrench. Then you don't have to boil water anymore; the game automatically 'cleans' the water if it goes through a plumbed sink.
To test, go to a sink and see what it says in the water source info screen. If it says "unlimited" then yes, the water is still in. But if it says some number, like xx/xx, then it's off and the water in there is what remained after the water was shut off.
Every sink etc has like 20 water points once the water is shut off. In the begging i used to be so confused but i learned how to tell for sure.
If you cant right click and see drink - Unlimited water than its indeed shutoff.
Once water is cut out when you choose drink or refill it will say like 11-20 water left compared to (Unlimited)
Once its shut off you can right click it and its not possible to see any options. go to other sink and yes there will be like 20 or limited water left. but once you use the lil amount then its done fore like first etc.
When the water is still ON, This revservoir perpetually refills, you can't empty it- As Einar describes, it is marked as 'Unlimited'.
However, when the water shuts off, That internal reservoir is all you get. You can go sink to sink, toilet to toilet siphoning water out of their individual reservoirs; But it will no longer fill up since the water has shut off.
on default settings power and water can shut down the moment you enter the world.
you only can get the left-over water in the pipes.
Even when the water is off you can still use the water left in that container, however once used up you will no longer get those options to pop up, which is what I presume is happening.
