Luckily you can play using the Sandbox. Tweak the settings how you like (I suggest saving your settings as a custom preset, playing for a little and if you like it carry on and if not you can load the preset again and lower zombie numbers/aggression/health etc).
I've found the control sometimes a little 'weird', that is, sometimes my character will run or walk in a direction not intended (or just other little frustrations with windows, cars, doors etc). So I turned off infection.
I guess this is an incredibly long-winded way of saying just play about with sandbox.
Having said that now I think about it zombies *DO* seem to figure out where you are a little too well sometimes (hence my changes to the settings).
Zombie detection range is about 20 tiles away for normal vision.
i mean i wanted to play a vanilla setting to experience the real thing , but i might have to do it , as so far its jsut ridiculously overdone. i love hard games , like x com ironmode , they are billions ect all against save scumming , but this is just overdone , finding 2 weapons that break 1 first use and never being able to get a break for 30 min of sneaking the best i can around , i mean really ?
tryed multiplayer witha friend , its even worst there is actually zero loot.
thanks , except rolling burglar , is there an efficient way to level nimble and stealth ? i mean crouching i heard but if your not getting seen , wich seems im alway been ahah
You get spotted like 20 tiles away. Regardless of Crouching, once they see you they are looking for you, and even if you break L.o.s. it seems you need to hang there for a second, and then as they try to go to your last known location then you can escape.
Basically it seems to work better for me around building or insides houses, but sucks in the woods. The woods however have less zombies once out of town.
The biggest thing I can't figure out, is occasionally when fighting my Moron character wants to do a 360 then swing at the zombie and I get hit from behind. It doesn't happen often but I'm like WTF seriously.....
As did I! When I was in my 20s playing everything on the hardest setting or not being see as a noob or unskilled player meant a lot more to me than it did in my 30s. This isn't a comment about maturity, more that priorities changed (I just want to have fun).
While I cannot suggest anything very helpful (my *entire* playtime is > 40 hours). I can share your frustrations with the default settings.
Ever since making my own sandbox and having it 'easier' I've been having a lot more fun. Plus I'm sure you aware of this but you can backup your save file and replace it if everything goes all wrong... :P
I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide. It's a bummer to hear multiplayer loot isn't ideal.. I haven't played MP but would be interested to give it a bash... Although with the settings changed slightly :p
