Is the spears anygood?
First time used i feel like this is a good long melee because it can kill (sometimes) some zombies instantly but it's quickly to break and finding some tree branches or wooden planks if you need to craft one.

You summarized it pretty well : very efficient (good attack speed/damage/range), but breaks very quickly. You'll need to carry several of them, and ideally have a good maintenance skill, but even with that you won't be able to rely solely on them.

Spear is a cheap and efficient weapon. Main feature of the spear is that it has a chance to one shot a zombie regardless of player negative moodles. Insta kill animation will be disabled if there is more than 1 zombie close around the player. Durability and chance to break all depends on players carpentry level and maintenance level. Some spears will break faster than other but it is because how the chance to break works. The higher the maintenance skill the lower is the chance for weapon to break.

does it make any better if i attach the spear with knife or other small melee weapons?

Knife attack animation has a small range and is dangerous when you attack a zombie that is laying on the ground while other zombies chasing you. With high knife skill attack, animation speed is gong to speed up. If you don't like using knifes but still want to make use of them, you can attach them to spear which will increase its damage. On top of that, when the spear with attached knife breaks, only the tool that is attached will break. You can detach the broken tool and attach a new one to the same spear. While the tool is still attached, the spear itself will not lose durability. I believe that when you attach any tool to spear, the tool for some reason looses durability faster that it would if it was used by hand. I tested it on screwdriver.

If you hold ALT while having a spear-like weapon (closed umbrella for example), it will initiate a charge animation for the duration that your stamina lasts or if you cancel it. Charging at a zombie during this animation will one shot them, but be careful since this will leave you vulnerable for a few moments. I recommend doing this against a spread out pack of 1 to 2 zombies

If you want to make combat easier on yourself, then this critical hit chance is basically the way to to. You cannot get overwhelmed if you thin out a horde with every 1-2 hits. Spears are excellent for that. When you keep moving while attacking, there's also no real risk to get the stabbing aninmation which has the potential to freeze you in place for a tiny bit longer than is comfortable. It will be swings instead, which also crit.

When I want to clear an area, I just prepare and load up a vehicle with spears and start taking down as many zombies as possible, then loop around to grab a new spear every now and then. Otherwise spears are pretty heavy and take a while to equip if you put them in a backpack.

That is what makes spears OP, especially if you start with Carpenter class and watch Woodworking every day. Read your skill books as soon as to get 3X boost to skill points, even from TV.

Spears break quickly, but are cheap to make. Save any Repair items for the knife you use to make spears. You can use Duct tape to attach any blade and when that combo breaks, you can salvage which ever piece had HP left

Spears are absolutely f****** stupid... there's a small chance I will stun lock you when it's trying to insta kill a zombie ....that stun lock means death... because you cannot move for one second

When you get your maintenance to 4-ish and spear to 5-ish (not a requirement, just a consideration for how rare the machetes are), you can attach a machete to your spear and get something akin to naginata. That thing is just insane.

then don't use it on horde, i asked this because idk if there was a chance spear can instant 1 kill and quite useful for killing a few of them around your base.
There are literally better melee weapons to clear a horde (machette, fire axe or katana for example)
