Map Editing Tool?
So what I'm looking to do is edit/clone existing map files, including vanilla. Cut, copy portions of, crop & shape existing map files. Re-locate existing map files and the like.

I saw some very old comments stating this was currently not possible.

Based on what I read...

Such editing should be something we can do based on the terms of the granted rights. Has re-working existing maps been specifically disallowed somewhere?

I think most in the modding community would agree that the ability to edit an existing map would serve many purposes. It would allow for recovery of lost maps. It would allow abandoned, discontinued, handed-off, etc. maps to be brought up to the latest systems. It would allow anyone to fix errors, update textures, fix inter-map alignment, and more.

I expect some of the main questions mappers might have are:
  • Is there a special tool for this available?
  • Are the technical details available for the community to create such a tool?
  • Is there a tool which can convert any existing compiled map to an uncompiled version with the latest version map data structure so non-existent information can be added (e.g. foraging zones)?
  • Are there plans by The Indie Stone to include such functionality in one of the current tools?

Implement something like this would be great. I still have to check a guide to see how people do it right now but don't know how easy would be to make something.
