Mechanics- no XP for sucessfully removing/installing parts?
So I am trying to grind my XP and am doing something 1 level above my own (2/3), yet I only gain XP from failing? Seriously...?

You can only gain exp from a successful remove once per 24 hours, and a successful install once per 24 hours.

And that is a Hard requirement. If you remove or install something at 23 hours and 10 minutes, it resets the timer and you have to wait for a full 24 hours again.

Yup so find a parking lot with a lot of cars and uninstall the Radio, Battery and 4 lights and reinstall them every 24 hours for max gains. Using only the screwdriver, this is the most optimal way for level 1 - 2 tier

I find that removing the windows, doors, seats, hood, trunk top, windshields, etc. help too. Basically everything. Especially at low levels of mechanics... you will fail a lot and still get exp. Eventually, of course, you destroy the component. That's why you don't skill up on the vehicle that you want to keep.

In my current playthrough it was a pain because I still haven't found a jack... so no tire, brake, or suspension removals either.

Reading Mechanic books is a must. With the beginner book, I leveled up twice in about 10 to 15 minutes in a parking lot.
You don't need to wait 24 hours, just make sure you move on to another car once you installed/reinstall parts. Be wary of your surroundings, you can do this quick if no zeds sneak up behind you.

Also collect and keep every lightbulb you find on cars and in houses, you can reuse these every 24 hours on every car, so if your base has 5 cars, you can use your 100 light bulbs on each one every day if you keep track when you did it last, just replace only headlights then move to the next car.

Lightbulb trick is when you uninstall lightbulbs it goes to the bottom of the list so pick the top 2 and it will cycle down till you stop getting xp, going through about 40 lightbulbs and 2 cars with books will get you to level 2 from 0 or just about.

I have to double check this but I thought for each car you could only uninstall and install each part once to gain experience. What I did was find junkers, uninstall every part I could, then re-install them and move on to the next vehicle. I don't know if I could do the same to each vehicle I worked on after 24 hours but it did seem like every vehicle I did the uninstall/reinstall on I gained experience for.
