Are both PC's your playing from able to access the internet?
If so and your internet speed isn't total bunksauce, you could just Host a game, set it to private, and dedicate at least 2gb of ram per 1 extra player
In my personal experience while messing around with this I was able to host a game with 2 other people with only 3gb dedicated to memory, and that was just with 8gb of ram to begin with
Hope this helps
But why don't they just tell us how to do it? Adding the -nosteam to the server and client worked on LAN, without running the dos server.
Thanks for your pointer, I think there should be a sticky post outlining the steps for multiplayer LAN and online.
I feel the same way, unfortunately it's a game in development and they're constantly changing/adding things. Until it gets to a build they're comfortable calling "complete" we can't expect any clear "how-to's." Personally, I don't mind, but it definitely is irritating at times.
I bought this game on GOG purely because it has LAN. I will 100% eventually buy this game on steam as well, just because I want to support them. I bought DST on steam purely becuase it has LAN (wish they also were on gog). I always support LAN and Hotseat games.
EDIT:
there are two bat files inside the folder.
drill down in your files to get to your steamapps/common/Project Zomboid Dedicated Server/
in there, find the file
StartServer64_nosteam.bat
run that one.
I might be mis-reading your post. ignore me if you want...
When I open it, a cmd starts, and runs a server I can join from the game (only with -nosteam on it). I can't make my friends join the server though.
Now my problem is that I don't know how to run the specific game we were playing before. When I run that .bat file, it just runs a server I don't know which one is
