Combat needs a huge overhaul
We should have a fighting ability. Hand to hand combat, ways to get the zombies off us faster, all that type of ♥♥♥♥.

It would be sick as hell to be able to snap necks, throw zombies over our shoulders when theyre biting us from behind, punch them in the mouth.

One of the worst features in this game is when a zombie bites you from behind and it stops u in your tracks. Like bro, i survived a 20ft drop out of a window, 100mph car crash, getting scratched, jumping through a window of broken glass and landing on the floor covered in broken glass, getting set on fire, eating bad food, getting scratched, hypothermia, not sleeping for weeks. And i die because a zombie decided to grab my shoulder and stop me mid fight to have a nice chat with me and makes me get eaten by the horde im clearing out.

We should get boxing bags or something, some actual gym equipment in this game.
Some fighting magazines, learn mma, something that will make us god like. Only if we put the effort in.

When i get bitten in the shoulder while fighting zombies, i dont wanna be stopped, i wanna either drag that zombie with me if its biting me while im running. Or throw it over my body if im mid fight. Also im so sick of tripping. Maybe we need a dexterity as well. Climbing fences, chances of tripping, all that type of stuff.

If you don't think this is realistic then you would die in a zombie apocalypse, probably because u decided to stop fighting for your life when a frail as.s zombie grabs your shoulder and bites you, not even biting the skin, literally just ripping your jacket.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

(Also let us use ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ treadmills)

This idea popped in my head the other day, an MMA occupation. High risk for a speedy hand to hand combat specialist. It'll still need some sort of protection for hands, spiked boxing gloves? Balance would be you'd have to stay lightweight, big bags would slow u down immensely.

Problem is it would be quite a big addition with the new animations for each hand to hand technique unless its basic boxing jab/hook/uppercut. Plus the throwing animations, tackles to the ground? All new animations for the zombies too.

Would be pretty cool tho.

It would be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool. The basic shove and stomp isn't enough anymore. We need to break necks, and kick in the back of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ legs. Maybe even dodges too. I feel like you would only learn this for being alive so long in game. Like adapting to the new threat the world is throwing at you

I agree overall but I don't think there should be any sort of striking involved. Realistically, if I were a survivor in a zombie apocalypse I would keep my fists FAR away from the bloody flesh of zombies at all costs. One strike to a sharp bone, now you have an open wound covered in zombie blood. I'd also never go for a choke of any kind.. that's just asking to get your forearm munched on.

Although I suppose there could be additional craftable items to protect from those risks, like vambraces for chokes or cement-filled gloves for striking.

I love the idea of a judo or grappling skill. Some things I'd like to see:

- Kicking zombies' feet out from under them.
- Hip tossing / Shoulder tossing zombies that grab you.
- More foot movement options like double tapping a direction to quickly duck out of the way.
- Grabbing a zombie by the collar and controlling them, being able to use them as a sort of shield.

Combat is meant to be slow in this game I argue, it's hard to murder somebody with a spoon, and it's reflected that way ingame, if a zombie took a chunk out of your shoulder you might stop and writhe in pain, we're not all MMA wrestlers here, if you're looking for unkillable, don't play this game, you will eventually die, unless you're lucky (not the trait) and turn off zombie respawns, if you're looking for super powerful, try Axeman, high axe skill with the regular Axe, but apart from that, this game tries to stay based in reality, we're humans, and inherently we make mistakes, tripping on a corner, stubbing our toe, etc etc, I do agree with you we need Treadmills, and more fighting skills would be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome.

But us as humans adapt to our situation. Yeah the combats slow. But does it have to be? Really think about it here. Irl if your fighting zombies and ♥♥♥♥, you would want to know the most efficient way to kill a zombie. With a weapon or your own bare hands. This could also gives gloves a new purpose, when punching zombies and grabbing them, the chances of getting bitten through leather gloves are minimised. And maybe they could even add those weird biker gloves with the big metal bumps on them. And im not looking to become unkillable, im looking for a way to be more efficient at staying alive.

If they were gonna add hand to hand combat and more ways to get zombies off you, they should add a skill that makes your reflexes better

These sound great. But actually killing zombies with your bare hands is a bit much. We already have the stomp, and really that is the only way you are crushing a skull without any sort of tool. A fit and strong survivor should be able to throw a zombie instead of just shoving, as a way to quickly take a single zombie to the ground

Exactly. Some non-lethal grappling moves would be awesome.

I mean, I don't know how to make improvised explosive devices, but my character can still learn how to make them. Humans adapt. Kind of silly to arbitrarily gate-keep one skill just because you personally do not practice it. No offense, but it's not like hip tosses or being able to control someone's movement are particularly difficult skills to learn in real life anyway.

He's not even gatekeeping it, he's just not sharing your opinion to it's full extent.. Stop throwing around big words as if he's doing something terrible just because he's not completely with your opinion.

It doesn't have to be overpowered just a character that specializes in hand to hand combat. Still weak at the start and have to train up skills as per other occupations. But as Freedom said realistically it wouldn't be wise to use hands so close to zombies and infection but that's what the occupation specializes in.

I can see their pros being speedy, doesn't have to carry a bunch of weapons. Just a cool looking dude who's a bit crazy into h2h combat.

Cons being big bags slows, high risk of infection. Realistically won't be as efficient as weapon users, I mean realistically 1 stab with a long sharp spear is gonna be a lot faster than snapping a neck or punching a head in.

Probably won't happen, hard to fit into pz realistic zombie apoc, it don't hurt to dream a little

Chill my guy. He's literally gatekeeping. (Gatekeeping: the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something.) I'm not sure why you're taking such an issue with me disagreeing with his opinion. That's kind of the whole point of suggestions and discussions. He made his point, I made mine. It's not that big of a deal.

Really cuz combat got a huge overhaul.... two years ago. This isn't COD Zombies or some other zombie game. Project Zomboid's combat is great as is and quite enjoyable.
Orclover Nov 5, 2021 @ 9:19am
More of a mod than a game thing. A hand to hand killer would be interesting though I give you that.

Right now there is not a lot of risk to fighting zeds once you get decent at it. My latest run I ended up with a burned foot, could only limp along, no sprinting. I cleared a small area of ~40 zeds, while tired. My bat broke while killing 10 of them, walking backwards. I just kept pushing them off of me as I limped into the woods and lost 15 of them there. Stomped 3 of their heads in when I left the woods. Equipped a hammer, and killed another 15 all over town.

Not a scratch on me other than my burned foot. I had a car lot, spiffos, gas station and clothing store to loot after that all to myself. I passed out in a booth after eating burgers.

Never said it wasn't enjoyable. What i said was that i hate that we can't use our hands to fight. I feel like the character lets the zombie bite him on purpose. Straight as he feels the hand land on his shoulder, he should just instantly try to get it off. We need a reflexes skill that helps us avoid being bitten or grappled more. Maybe get up faster when we fall, manage to shake off zombies faster and add a chance to not even get scratched or bitten while getting them off.

"gate keeping" buddy im not saying some outrages ♥♥♥♥. im literally just saying we should be able to do more than shove and stomp. it should be a valid option to sucker punch a zombie, if we get infected then its our fault. Be funny as ♥♥♥♥ boxing zombies up imo
