Wait.. no Pharmacist?
I wonder why you have Nutrition perk but no pharmaceutical one.

Seems like everyone knows which drugs are antidepressants, atiemetic, NSAIDs, opioids, antihistamines, antibiotics, hipnotics/sedatives, etc.

And looks like every pack of medicine is safe for consume. Like no adverse effect at all. No dizzines, xerostomia, imnsonia, sudoresis, etc.

At least a drug dictionary to help identify correct medicine would be ok.

And I'm not even being lore unfrendly here. Like opioids (strong painkillers) that may cause xerostomia that may require your character to kinda drink water more frequently. Antiemetics that may help treat some kind of food poisoning. Hipinotics that may help you sleep better but can cause dependency (like smoke, drinking). Doesn't need to be medically accurate.

But I wonder why pharmacists are like kinda set aside in all survival games :steamthinking:

:p

It might have to do with game regulations in different countries. State of decay (original) had meds called morphine or methadone I remember...USA version. They had to change the name to sell the game in Europe.

That makes sense. But you may use the same approach as fire arms and invent other names. Still I don't think using drug classes (like I did in my post) could be problematic.

Even without adding more realistic, detailed, or sub-divided types of pills into the game, I think adding a pharmacist occupation and a training manual (magazine) or two would still be good for the game. I believe sleeping pills are usually sold without a prescription and just sitting on a normal shelf, obviously labelled, but beta-blockers seem like they should be "unknown pills" for normal characters. Chugging a bottle of random pills I picked up off of a corpse seems like it shouldn't be something to try trivially. :)

It would be cool to add some depth to the drugs in game. Different strength of effect as well as the strength of side effects. Without the knowledge given by a special trait or perhaps a magazine to read like Herbalism you'd be rolling the dice every time you grabbed a strange bottle of pills.
"What's this? I think that's a kind of painkiller"
Turns out to be a tranquilizer...
I feel like if I didn't know what the pills did curiosity would get the better of me and i'd have my player character popping every pill they saw. I think side effects for characters could be interesting, like you get x% of getting a side effect from medication.

I know that you can buy melatonin over the counter , but that's just a hormone your body produces naturally. There's no telling what the sleeping tablets in the game are based off of.

Because everyone that can read, can read on the box/pack what's what...

Aaaaand at least since 80's everything is described what it is and what it is used for just fine and dandy.

But adding a Pharmacist that could actually DO pills combined with herbalist and some lab equipment would be alright.

This. OP has a very weird ask. Pharmacists are good in real life, but in a zombie apocalypse? Oh no, I can't understand the side effects...

That makes sense since the game takes place in USA and legislation there is different from rest of the world.
Regarding herlabist, again it all depends on the country. At least in mine a pharmacist has a good knowledge of it mainly because our pharmacopeia supports it. Just out of curiosity, the discipline is named pharmacognosy.

And maybe the process of making pills is something will not aggregate to the game since it requires a little more complex process. BUT we could make packs like the good old days, an artesanal process that technology made obsolete.

Well, wouldn't want to be Brad Pitt and take a incurable right?

Lol, Jk, I agree If there is a nutritionist, there has to be a pharmacist trait. Especially for the already existing occupations. Btw, devs, please add more occupations. You're missing a gold opportunity there, especially with age, there's no age gauge for the game, everybody is 27, and that, that was previous builds.
