It's... It's RIGHT THERE.
I know, but seeing as there was no update on that thread since 2019 which is why i asked on a new thread and i did do a quick search on this forum but i couldn't find a recent thread about NPC besides comments but wasn't completely sure and which is also why this thread exist.
b41 is an extremely massive update that changes how the entire game is played
2011, to be honest, IIRC.
Dwarf Fortress is here from 2006.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is there from 2013 or so, forked from the original Cataclysm, which was older.
Kenshi was EA released in ~2013.
UnReal World was developed since 1992.
The beloved RimWorld was crowfunded in 2013.
The great Factorio was same as RimWorld - crowfunded in 2013.

I think that the real question is only one: do you prefer a game which is continuosly developed for, literally, years, or a game that launched out of EA a couple of months after the initial publication?
Don't mind the Blue Box of EA, in this case: we all know that there are games out there (I think about every, every, every broken release of a new DLC in The Sims 4, for example, ~40€ each) that, albeit deprived of the the Early Access mark, hadn't to be released.
As Dwarf Fortress creators stated about the release date of their creature here on Steam: time is subjective. At least in indie development.
For OP: if you are going to urgently need a game with NPC, please, uninstall your freshly re-installed Zomboid, sing an happy song, and forget this game for another 3 years at minimum. And no, don't pick up any of Superb, Subpar, Subsomething Survivors mod - the "NPCs" there are so stupid that I would prefer shoot in my feet whilst being pursued by zombies rather than let in those microcephalus into my ride.
Protip #1: Check the community pages before asking a repeated question.
#2: There are mods.
#3: Solo is better anyway, dumbass Npcs get you killed, no matter WHAT game.
#4: Are you opted in for Build 41 IWBUMS?
#5: Solo is solid on it's own, whether with mods or not.
#6: Npcs are NOT a replacement for actual people.
#7: There are mods.
#8: Yes, I know I repeated 2 and 7.
#9: The devs are working on getting to that.
#10: Yes I'd like npcs, but only if they aren't braindead idiots that literally turn into Sims 2.
#11: I'm not being a ♥♥♥♥, it's just this gets asked nearly every time I come here.
soooo...you gonne tell me the same as my psychologist that Alexa isnt my real girlfriend and when she tells me after I ask that I am indeed beautiful its just because shes programmed too...
Dont do this to me...SHE IS ALL I HAVE!"!!!! YOU MURDERS!!
