Water shut off much too early for comfort
So im playing on builder (i know, but trust me i have my reasons) and the water just shut off after SIX days. the power is still on which is useful beyond measure, but im still so shocked the water shut off that early. Looking on the wiki it said it shoudl be a few weeks to a few months, any explanation for this or way i can check the date possibilities?

thats just insane, luckily i start as carpenter so getting the exp to make a ton of watercollectors as well as a staircase to put them above some sinks is fairly easy, thats my current goal but its making my guy depressed LMAO i guess he doesnt enjoy his pre apocolypse profession anymore

It is pure RNG determined by the setting you chose. In all of the difficulties (Builder, Survivor, Apocalypse) the setting is put to 0-30 days for water shutoff, same for electrical shut off.

So if you have bad luck, you could have one or both shut off on day 1, scant hours into the game.

Ha, I got that as well with the latest character. Lights are fine, water is long since out. Must have been about six days in.

Yeah i had the half a day only water event. Allthough what i noticed when i still played apocalypse was that if you started with terrible weather during your first one or two days, than usually the power stayed at least the first week of AUG.

The weather system is totally disconnected from when the utilities shut off. The first week of August is the absolute latest the power can be on so you probably just got really lucky.

You can set the time for when this occurs. Just make a custom sandbox.

Even with the custom sandbox, Most of the time ranges are 0-XYZ; There's only two that have a lower limit over 0, and both of them are huge spans of time to have guaranteed water for.

That said, Part of the game is learning to cope regardless of what situation you end up in and what resources you have available. When the water or electricity goes off- Even if it goes off day one, all the sinks/tubs/toilets/etc still have water enough to support you until you can get rain collectors...although you'd have to clear many more houses much earlier than normal to do so.

update: water hasnt been too much of a problem. I didnt want to lean on them this early but i have three water dispensers im using for drinking water and i set up a rain collector for washing. Now that i think of it the sink setup would be useful but the water dispensers should last long enough for now sort of as an intermediate solution until i can get water piped up correctly.

I literally just started a game and the water was already off. I had to search this to see if it was a glitch or setting issue

Oouuuch, Yeah that's painful. It can happen :( Good luck! It's unfortunate, but still survivable!

It is completely random on default settings. It'll turn off "sometime" in the first 30 days. That could be literally day 1, if you're unlucky.

Don't like it? Use the sandbox configuration settings.

iv had water shut off at around day 5

its not hard to deal with, put pots/pans/cpus anything that can catch water, put in stove for a minute, and move large pot to bathroom to clean wounds

rng, deal with it or start over

I live near a water treatment plant, and a rather large artificial lake reservoir. It is quite a busy place of late, with all the upgrades going on. If a zombie outbreak hit my city, that place would quickly be infected with all the people coming and going (and upgrading), so if zombies started stalking the workers of the plant, I could definitely see that totally shutting down in hours. It isn't all automated, plenty of bodies are on site, and plenty could go wrong if they had to defend themselves from the wet and wild dead.

Even if that did happen though, one could still get to the water after cutting through the fence, so I reckon you should go to a source.

I’ve had water shutoff on day 0. It’s not a big deal though. Plenty of houses to raid, and they all have a tiny bit in them. When you find the city and get a car then it’s super easy. Just take a water dispenser or two. Alternatively you can look for a lake or river, and boil the water.
