it can be eaten raw
It's very easy to lose weight in PZ. Most foods aren't that calorie dense, especially the stuff you can forage for or farm. You can stuff your face with berries all day and never gain anything, for instance.
If you go too underweight you get a bad trait (basically a debuff to endurance, strength etc), same with going overweight. You gotta stay in the middle to dodge those bad traits. So i guess OP is underweight and wants to gain some kilos.
Cooking instead of eating as is seems pretty much a no-brainer to me unless you're really pressed for time/fuel. Cooked rabbit by itself (ie. not in a meal) has a mild happiness(?) debuff which fish does not.
Making stir-fries or roasts with 3 parts rabbit 3 parts veggies seems to keep the weight fairly steady. Add/subtract meat to manage weight (or eat chips etc. in addition if aiming to put on some pounds).
If you drop to 35 kilos you'll just start taking damage continuously until you starve to death, I believe.
The realism of this game blows me away sometimes. I also get very sad when eating a dish of just fried cabbage.
