Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Zomboid 2 or similar games ?
Is anything in the pipeline for a more modern Zomboid ? Or (and Im not holding out much hope here)is there anything similar to this out already?
Not that this game alone isnt great, its just, clunky..

To answer the OP as far as Steam goes Dead Maze is hands down the closest I've seen that makes me think of Project Zomboid. Off of Steam Dead Frontier runs a close 2nd. mate.

Close 2nd. on Steam.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/250400/How_to_Survive/

The 3rd. person version.

Here is Dead Frontier 2 also since I added the 3rd. person version of HtS.:steamhappy:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/744900/Dead_Frontier_2/

I'm going to drop a few other suggestions based off of what I've seen mentioned already because I know 7DTD and SoD was already tossed out there.

First the game that inspired SoD. Inventory and stuff is modifiable and this game is best played with the Romero Mod.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/415180/Fort_Zombie/

Mentioning this one because Nayati River that was posted reminded me of it.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/239840/Dead_State_Reanimated/

This game is more like a choose your own adventure novel, but it can be fun and I thought it was worth mentioning.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/249360/Zafehouse_Diaries/

The second part of this list are games I've haven't played yet, but I am considering buying at some point.:steamhappy:

Sequel to How To Survive.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/360170/How_to_Survive_2/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/653940/Zafehouse_Diaries_2/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/710230/Urban_Strife/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/363930/Dead_Age/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/951430/Dead_Age_2_The_Zombie_Survival_RPG/

Anyway hope some of these suggestions help on top of what has already been recommended. Good luck mate.:steamhappy:

Pretty sure finishing this game is on the pipeline before working on a sequel.
State of Decay obviously isn't as detailed but from what I can tell, it's about as close as you are going to get to a decent action game with decent zombie survival gameplay. If I remember right, it allows you to scavenge for supplies and barricade buildings, which is pretty much what makes a game true zombie survival imo.

Haven't played the game myself (don't have an xbone or a good pc) so apologies if this isn't accurate.

Thanks Vile (that sounds weird lol). State of Decay is good also, but far more arcade-y though. Ill wait for the finished article with this one, its great just something about the controls and zoom level, along with no rotate makes it feel too blunt to me !

Thanks for the reply though :brotherfist:

I know what you mean. I love the game but it took a while to get use to it, and sometimes I still have issues with it.
you could try DayZ.. but I can't say I enjoyed it very much even though I have a few thousand hours in it
7 Days to Die is kinda like this but the 7th day horde every week breaks that comparison. Imagine if we had to contend with a focused helicopter event every 7 days that just got worse every time.

You can disable the 7th day horde, still 7 days lacks some of the aspects zomboid has. And it's a first person game, unlike zomboid.
zomborg is quite good
Why worry about a sequel, when it will probably be years before this one is "finished"?
Whether you like the game or not, it is not unreasonable to think 8 years in "early access" is silly. If you do not have a better business/development plan than it taking 10 years to make a game, why did you bother making the game to begin with?

This is probably the last "perpetual EA" game I will ever buy.

Because for some small devs, this works without being sucked up by a big publisher? I can agree that there's plenty of EA scam games out there, but I wouldn't consider this one to be that. It's a fairly niche game, so it's not like they're racking in massive millions every month, especially if you consider how long they've been working on it.

They also make very noticeable progress. Is it slow compared to other games? Yes, maybe, but i'd argue it also has more depth and content than the majority of games.

EA is a good model, but it's easy to criticize it during.

Pretty sure it taking this long wasn't the "business/development" plan. Yes it has taken a ridiculous amount of time, but I enjoy the game enough as is that I don't feel like I wasted my money, and it's still being updated.
As for why they bothered making the game to begin with, probably because this is the type of game they wanted to see exist.

I am complaining a lot about PZ but it has at least a reasonable price for amount of content and emotions it gave me, but after M&B 2 Bannerlord never ever buy an EA game, EA should extinct or have more hardlines agreed upon between game development company, buyers and maybe platform where it sales
