How to tow vehicles

I cant figure out how to tow a vehicle. I tried with many different vehicle types/ combinations and nothing is bringing up the towing menu. I have no mods.

Everyone says to back the cars up to eachother. Then get out and press V to bring up the towing option. When I press V the vehicle menu comes up but there is no towing option.

In my research literally 50/50 percent of the people say you need a tow rope. No, thats only for a mod. Then they say you need a tow bar for vanilla. No, thats only for a mod. There seems to be no general concensous between what is required for the mod, and what is required for vanilla.

What am I missing? I tried using the pickup truck to tow a sedan. Nothing, sedan to pickup, nothing. Pickup to pickup, nothing. Pickup to station waggon, nothing, station waggon to sedan and pickup, nothing. The cars Im trying to use to tow are in perfect condition. As are the cars that I want towed. Not sure what Im missing

It might only be available on the latest beta branch. The biggest number / IWBUMS are different names / aliases for the latest version. (Right now anyways. I believe the devs have said they'd get rid of the acronym alias, since Steam changed how it handles betas and it wouldn't be needed anymore.)

It's all about positioning. Leave enough room to walk between the two cars, go behind the towing car, where the towing hook would be (every car in game has one), press V and connect the two vehicles. THEN get in the car and drive off.

Are you backing close enough to the front or back of the vehicle to attach and tow it? You don't need any items or mods and I've towed a few vehicles successfully a few days ago.

You do have to be pretty precise with how close it needs to be and aligned to the other vehicle too, it's a process. Took a couple of tries when I tried to tow one van.

So you back into it closely, hop out walk to the back of your vehicle. Press V, an option to attach that vehicle to the other should pop up then once you select it should be properly towing.

Incorrect. Towing is in the base game.

Ive been trying for 2 days (in real life) I cant figure out how to tow. Ive tried re-positioning the car, and tried everything from touching the bumpers, then moving the car up an inch. And inch by inch i move the front vehicle forward to see if it will open the menu to the point where the car is too far away and Im outside of the green outline on the ground.

And ive repeated this process with the car slightly to the left, and then on the right and several times in the middle. No matter how I line the car up or how close or far away I am, I cant get the tow option. Ive also been reading the mechanics books but I from what Ive gathered, he should be able to tow right out of the box so to speak

Vanilla no mods player here.
Are you aware that the tow option is simply a blue plus symbol as below?

The vehicle radial menu will only come up if you are standing in front of the hood or the trunk as indicated by the green hit box which appears on the ground.

That's the right question to ask! If you're on B40 and not on the current beta build it won't work.

After double checking, I see I'm on 40.43 which is the latest steam version. I didn't realize that Build 41 was an experimental test branch. I thought "IWBUMS" was the test branch and 41 was official.

Towing must not yet exist in my version of the game.

Trunk of the towed vehicle needs parked facing the trunk of your main vehicle. Attach it trunk to trunk, and you’ll get a little bit of lift with some of the vehicles. Especially towing a dash. You abit more stable with a tow on the back for driving at speed and taking corners but it’s still dangerous. You are less likely to flip tho. Attach the vehicle properly otherwise it will really drag.

I tried it this morning. Really enjoying the new 3D objects and much of what else I saw. Looking forward to more this weekend.
