Most calorie dense food you can make?
Hey everyone. One thing I constantly fight is the underweight trait because I mostly farm and I only eat when the hungry moodle comes up. So everyone once in a while I have to spend like an entire day constantly stuffing my face just to gain weight. What's the heaviest food I can make from a combination of farming, fishing/hunting, and gathering? Actually what's the best I can do in summer and the best I can do in winter?

It's going to be a bit harder if all you're doing is farming/fishing/gathering. I think making stews would be your best bet. I know I started gaining weight when I was trying to lose some because I was eating stew. I was at 86 and went to 87. Fill it up with potatoes and the like. Other option would be to bake pies or cook pasta or rice, but all of which would require a town run for the flour and butter and pasta and rice.

You also don't need to wait until you're hungry to eat. Just stuff your face whenever you can.

Yeah I know I can eat whenever it's just a constant thing to keep up on all the time (When you're at like 75kg and almost underweight all the time). I really don't like using my non-perishables unless I absolutely have to. So I go straight to sustainable as fast as I can. I'd like to have something where I can just pop a few piece of food and boom. Gain a couple of pounds and not have to worry about it. Instead of needing to eat 20-30 cabbages a day to achieve the same result. I'll look into stews though. Maybe with a heavy meat content as well.

Usually when I REALLY need to gain weight I'll pop one or two cans of oats or entire thing of peanut butter. That usually does the trick. I'm looking for something similar to that. Something that I can make and not have to worry about running out of

If you're into putting in the work, take up trapping and/or fishing. Combining two of those meats(bird+rabbit or rabbit+fish or bird+fish) with a couple veggies of your choice into a roasting pan, stir fry pan or stew should more or less keep you in a good range... Maybe having to eat a just veggie salad every couple of days to maintain balance.

This does take a little investment of time upfront. But once you get your trapping flow going, you capture birds and rabbits like you're growing cabbages.

To get birds consistently I use a stick trap with worm bait. And for rabbits, I use a box trap baited with cabbage.

Fishing is fishing. You know how to do that I assume.

Then I steal a freezer box from a gas station and just keep all my meats in there. But you can put your meat where you want.

Good call. While I usually use 1 or 2 popsicle freezers and a fridge I generally tend to over farm leading me to put food where ever. Having different sections for different food would be a good idea

I also tend to over-produce vegetables.

But you can compost what you don't use. Rotate old stock out, throw it in the compost bin, throw in a couple worms and let it rot. You can get a decent supply of fertilizer this way. If that's something you need.

The compost bin is a carpentry item you make in the right-click menu. Not just any old bin you wanna toss stuff into just in case ya didn't know.

Yeah no worries I'm aware I got almost 600 hours on this game. Is there any way to speed up the compost time with Vanilla? I know that Hydro you can do it manually with their composter

You can modify the composting time in the sandbox settings. But there isn't any other game function that would speed up the process.

HA! Lol of course. There are so many options to this game I forgot to check there for compost. Good call just got done with Cyberpunk so I'll look into that in my new game

Stews/Soups/Stir-Frys/Burgers are all good things to pack the weight on your apocalypse ass, and the first three you can stick almost anything into the pot/pan to make it. If you download the 'minimal display bars' mod, you get a graphical idea of where you are in a bunch of categories, including weight-inclination. (whether that arrow is going up or down for your weight)

Off topic a little, but I've always found overproduction of veg to tie in nicely with trapping. As mentioned, compost what you don't use, which will give a supply of worms for bird trapping.

Rabbit traps need to be on the ground, but since bird traps can go on your roof, safely out of reach from hungry zeds, then they are a great source of meat for little effort

If you reference the nutritional data of the foods, generally anything that has more than 30-40 calories per hunger point is good for putting on weight. If your character is currently losing weight, you may have to go further to counteract your diet.

Only thing I've found that helps me gain weight from sustainable resource is fish. Just fillet don't even need to cook, a few of those really make me gain weight. Take home a nice haul and visit lake every few days.

I'm cooking stews that have around +100 hunger, stir fry's around +70, but these barely up my calories. There's all kinds of meats and veg in there too.

I thought maybe a balanced diet with more fruit but I'm still losing weight. Still have to rely on looted items, maybe good for game balance. Haven't tried baking, pasta or rice meals yet but as op said non sustainable.
