Project Zomboid

I got two questions about big gates and big fridges:
1. What better option to use as a gate? Before It was automobile, but today zombies just craw under it. Simple gates? But they can just be smashed by a zombie siege. So, what you will suggest?

2. How to install 2 sized store fridge? I try to move it, and it dissembark on two parts with 40 units weight. How to install it? I tryed a build menu or movig/dissembark menu, but it gain nothing. Found it. RMB on item in inventory while second part in close range.

If you want an impenetrable gate there aren't any. (not that i'm aware of I know bookshelves will prevent entering windows but they can still destroy the bookshelf.)Have you tried creating an elevated walkway so you can pick off the attacking zed with a ranged weapon? (make SURE you use a wall or fence to prevent you from falling off!)

If anything a high level metal door/wall or concrete walls.

Sorry, I not about it. Probably I tell not all story. I allready arround all perimentre of my base I maked log wall and only one main entrence for car - I about it. How to rid away zeds from base, it's not problem, from second floor of gas station (yeah, I build base there) I droped few ropes, but I interested only how secure main gate from destruction in usual use. My generator work 24/7 for fuel pumps and freezer and sometimes it getting unnesesary attention. Previosly car don't let any zeds come in, or destroy car. Now they can avoid it, usual gates can be destroid and I don't build em.

You can't have an indestructible gate. That was kind of the point of making it so zombies can crawl under cars. You are never supposed to be 100% safe.

Well. As in current patch no one know simple solution, I better just place wall instead gates, much better and safer climbe each time by one of the ropes or walls, better what be assaulted becouse of my generator.
Thanks anyway.

Actually not sure, but you might be able to use those concrete blocks at parking lots to prevent crawling under. Havent tried it yet though.

Also there is 1 place in the whole game that is completely walled in so, there you should be completely safe. And there is a fuel station not far neither. It would be the perfect hiding place. Find it if you can:)

Get em away each time to drive in or out? :ShockedOwlcat:

If this place completely walled in, when how I will drive in?:lunar2020thinkingtiger: And I too lazy to walk or drive for gassoline, prefer to deploy my base on pumps it self, like on the gas station on south-west from Rosewood. Not much zombies arround (but get em away from gas station it was bit of challege), with some water barrels or crates it's really good place to stay. But was only one really big problem - create a wall. I spend a few nights only (IRL) to make it and arroud 800 logs and rags been spended, but it totaly worth it. A lot of points of interested in half day walk (prison, Rosewood, farms), a lot of forrests arround is sweet places looking for materials and meat without any zeds and e.t.c.

But I try to find it, just for lulz.

Best thing I can tell you is use motion sensors or traps to intercept/kill them before they can deal any damage.

If they arround gate or walls, they bang into it really loud. And they can try damage it for hours without any damage, and if I away from base, this sensors useless at all. I don't speak at all about, they neesessary place not even dozens, hundreds, not less. No, it's not universal solution. I think just create long corridor to addition of the outer perimetre with two gates to previde any attempts to breach through main gates. They really rarely try get to the generator from 40 meters, but if main gates get away from to 50 or even 55 meters problem ill, i think, be solved. Pity, but I really like old car-gates system, worked like Swiss clock and was very authentic.

Extra question - they can destroy a log wall? About gates and usual plank walls I know, they can do it quite successfuly, but what about log walls? Just I don't wanna know it in my own experience.

You can use traps like barbed wire which will damage them over time.

Log walls are very durable, it takes an extremely long time for them to destroy them but if left unattended and in disrepair eventually anything will be broken into.

you can place them in front of your main gates leaving a few spaces just for your character to move through if you aren't moving a large vehicle through it.

Try adding window'ed walls and welding iron bars (requires 3 and propane torch) I'm pretty sure (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) but you can shoot at the zed through those iron bars to protect your walls provided they are window your visible angle though your aiming may suffer.

Thank you, it is really be handy in future. I don't thinked before about walls with iron bars, at least not for my current situation, I got only 2 or 3 zeds arround the base in a week and big hordes are very rarely, usualy I just get em away on foot. Before the fields are growned with trees I could get them away by vehicle with car horn. Just I affreid what if be very long away from my base, arround 2 or 4 days and zeds breach gate and destroy generator.

The thing is what they are saying about walls, is only working if there is a few. If 6 or more zombies are banging at the same spot, usually any kind of crafted wall goes down in seconds.

If you tell about usual 1-3 lvls walls - yeah, i know it. Becouse of this reason I don't use it at all and never place my base where a lot of zombies, I just don't wanna see my eyes personaly how many zeds needed to break it through:spiffo:

Custom sandbox.

There’s an option to make player construction indestructible.
I know it, but it's not a option for already 70 hours gamesave. And just its not interested to play simplified rules set, only one I disable - virus infection. At least while don't enter in game some cure like in Dead Rising or Dying Light.

Some good design ideas here. I've noticed that a garage door with a vehicle immediately in front of it is impenetrable since a zombie crawling under it can't get any leverage and immediately returns to the street. Obv they'll just look for another way in and possibly go through a wall, but this should give some idea of solid entry point for player.
