Is there any reason to do specific exercises?
Burpees train both fitness and strength at the same time, is there a benefit to doing other exercises?

Yes. It’s depending upon what you want and how much endurance you have. Most of the games I start with low fitness or overweight, I need to start with squats because I exhaust too quickly doing sit-ups or burpees to gain fitness quickly. Burpees also give less fitness Xp for a set than just doing sit-ups.

There’s also the exercise fatigue to take into account.

And the strength exercises below burpees that requires dumbbells or barbells give more strength xp.

Starting out with standard (5) health and fitness or better, you can probably just shoot for burpees alone until you find a barbell or dumbbell to really emphasize strength training.

Ah makes sense, cool! I'm glad the other exercises aren't just there for 'filler', but actually have a purpose

I do two sets of a battery of exercises: ten minutes each of squats, sit-ups and burpees. That way you get a lot of fitness and a little of strength, the rest of which can easily come from lugging around all that crap you find every day. Even a low-fitness or strength character will benefit from a regular all-around workout. Longer days will mean less time is eaten away from exploring etc. Include long runs whenever you can (beach running is good because there are hardly any spawn points there)
