Actually for everyone. Allthough it is a good idea, to not go there until the copter event happened. As it can get very crowded and quite deadly once the copter brings everyone and their pal there. especially with the new crawl under the car effect:P
1) Have radio (better yet, a walkie) tuned.
2) Hear that air traffic is inbound.
3) You have a running car (since you're a mechanic)
4) Head south to the outskirts of town and wait.
5) 'Copter arrives
6) Draw everyone from town to the south
7) Pied Pier their dead *sses down the road as long as you want (see map for best spots) then ditch and drive off once copter is gone
8) Return to relatively zombie free low income neighborhood without firing a shot.
Actually taking them to south from your base is the worst possible idea. Because that way lies south Riverside, which has the self storage lockers, guaranteed at least 3 generators (since Riverside has very few garages), a gas station, the mechanic shop and the huge warehouse complex. Take them either southeast, or east from town.
Allthough west from junkyard following along the road, that eventually turns to a sandroad you can go to farm houses which will have garages and have a good chance of generator spawns, and you could also allways travel using the sandroads to the far west to the gas station and the fishing store, since the eastern part of Riverside, the gas station there tends to repopulate quite fast, unless you do some building. However in that case you can say goodbye to the respawning police force, which is a good income of bullets and guns.
Also you need to know the frequency of the Automated Broadcast System, which you either spend time to figure out or you find it via sheer luck. (Cars are usually not such a huge deal, usually you can find one around the gas station and even with a 0/0 guy it is obtainable)
But of course this is just my oppinion.
I find radios all the time in my spawn settings, and usually have the freq within the first day, but YMMV.
Well i have no such luck with frequencies, i think i had 2 games of about 40? or so, where i did find the frequency before the event even happened. Every other time it was just it should come soon...so let us prepare:P (And about 7 times i could not even tell i had the copter event since i had a thunderstorm ongoing when it came. Was funny. I could tell only during one thunderstorm that the copter is there cuz of the good of hearing trait)
Also if you already take them down to the prison then there was no real reason to spawn in Riverside i would say. But that is just what i am thinking. Probably different playstyles.
After the copter finally gives up trying to kill you there will be half the population of Valley Station piled up on the other side of the fences, not including all the zombies still alive on your side. Perfect target practice or better yet, stabbin' time with a hunting knife or five. When you're finally too exhausted to move or you've killed every single corpse in the area, head home. This works best on long days, 4x4 insane zombies and more prevalent loot tables.
