Farming and Rural supply, Gigamart stock boxes of jars. The loose jar can be found in peoples houses usually with a lid near by. Gigamart is probably best option. Farming and Rural supply for me had 2 boxes of jars.

I tend to find Jars & jar lids in residential garages all the time.

Occasionally I have lucked out and found a box of jars in houses but it is so rare that you could probably loot every house in a town and not find any.

If you're going to the effort of looting for specific stuff, just get a generator from garages or self-store, and grab some gas. Enough freezer time for many winters.

Yeah also making jared vegetables currently is not worth it. Normally they last like a month at max? Whereas you put a freshly picked cabbage place it into a freezer and good for 2-3 months. The whole concept of jars is not really working therefore.

I Agree with nordil a couple of things

it uses the whole Sugar
The jar lid cannot be crafted
The lifespan is not infinite
The farming system is too quick to produce fresh food to warrant it.
The filled jar requires cooking

Yeah I've been freezing cabbages since they are the fastest to grow but I wanted some alternatives.
Animalman Oct 7, 2021 @ 9:39am
It’ll net you some cooking skill though. I made a whole box of jars from my crops. But after a month is no longer fresh.

Saying that most veg only last a month in the freezer it could be idea to freeze the jar and maybe get 2 months of actual fresh shelf life

Il give it a try

Oh aswell it’s like a portable freezer. So I kept my jars permanently in the back of my vehicle. And they kept fresh for a month. Then I ate them.
You can also freeze jars and they should stay fresh for 24-25 months.
That's a big step up from original spoiling time of cabbage... wait for it... wait for it.. oh it's gone after not even a week.

It doesn’t matter if the jar is not freshly cooked any more, because if you made the jars well enough and stored a variety the resulting salad will not see a disadvantage from being stale

I just disagree with the sugar is really the only problem I have I think sugar is a condiment ingredient in these jars in real life and not a requirement, as that preserving work is perform by vinegar the sugar just takes the edge off taste wise.

Still an entire kilogram of sugar for one jar is extortionate. And I could have made high quality candy bar or syrup with a whole kg of sugar and water.

Yeah true, that's exactly why I use the realistic canning mod:

I know they will change it though is why I don’t make a mod. Because there’s no way it’s intended to be this way. It’s just placeholding until the food system is secure. I think they didn’t know how to provide that advantage fairly. And didn’t program the sugar to be the same as the vinegar, so it’s like one dev to another drawing attention saying fix this.

Idk tho lol
