Craft Spear with Hunting Knife (too LOW condition)
Hi, when I try to craft Spear with Hunting Knife I get the spear with 20% condition. I don't understand why. What does effect it? Wooden spear and the hunter knife that I used was FULL CONDITION. But still I crafted Item with 20% condition. Why so low? How to change it? Or maybe I used the knife with "bad" condition but didn't mention that? Who knows? :)
Thanks for the help :)

I did another experiment:
I crafted new Wooden Spear with 100% condition.
I took the hunting Knife with 90% condition.
My carpentry is lvl 7.
The result is 45% condition of "spear with hunting knife".

Level up your carpentry skills and try crafting another, it will have better condition.

What is the base stick you used to craft it then? I believe those can have their own durability as well and if its low before you craft it then it will be low after you craft it.

I get full condition spears when I craft mine and that's using a chipped stone and a tree branch.

Okay yea thats why. When you modify weapons they take a dura hit, this is to offset how powerful they are, when they break you can retrieve whatever you used as the spear's tip.

I thought you meant you used the hunting knife as the tool to shave a branch into a wooden spear, my apologies for the oversight.

You can also try restoring their lost condition, using things like wood glue or duct tape, it'll restore a surprising amount at 100% chance with carpentry at high levels.

Try making a spiked bat, you'll see it also takes a dura hit.

Yeah, I restored condition of my "spear with hunting knife" with wood glue (most efficient). But It is a bit expensive for me to spend for single good weapon so many resources. I was going to use glue after some using new spear. But now I must to spend it very soon after creating. It is frustrating a bit... So I wonder if there is any way to improve Starting Condition of craftable weapon... I have not much wood glue at all now, honestly. :) Yeah, I am going to search it in another town but still...

In my opinion it makes no sense to fit any extension to a spear.
maybe it changed since an update, but iam sure you canot get back things from a broken spear.

if you get spear to lvl 5 and maintenance to 4 they hold long enough to beat 10 zeds, just take a couple with you.
i use only spears with tips when i find one, otherwise i use them bare.

I'm not 100% if its vanilla but you can definitely retrieve spear tips. "Reclaim <name of tip> I believe its called in the crafting menu.

Also spear level 5 and maint level 4 is a lot of fighting, most players probably won't live long enough to level it up that far.

Spear tips greatly enhance the damage and increase critical strikes, which even if its a weak hit, the target will die from the DOT effect which is always 100% health damage.

i play only with supersurvivors and afaik i have no option to remove the tip of a broken one. ( i verify it next time i play )

I used this tactic in the beginning of my journey. I took one crafted spear in hands and two in backpack. So it was enoung for one day. But then I found gardenFork (it has much more big maintenence) and It was enoung to survive with one gardenFork for days and even weeks. Now all they are broken :) And I wanted to use something like that in spear type weapon. But If there is not chance to improve starting condition of HuntingKnifeSpear, then it would be better to spend wood clue on repairing my 7 GardenForks instead of wasting it on newly spears.

I am going to get to 4 lvl of spears very soon :) I was hope that HuntingKnifeSpears would be enoung for surviving, but now I see that was fake hope. After last GardenFork would be broken, I'll take lead Pipe :D
