Lighting post power outage?
Wouldn't it be nice if there was some kind of battery powered lamp or place-able candle? Something to light up an area besides the ugly and honestly quickly drained lamp posts? Something to think about for modders or maybe even the dev team. If I'm stupid and this already exists please tell me because power just went out and with all my windows boarded up I really don't feel like carrying a flashlight everywhere and don't plan on using a generator.

Well...you do know that you can bring back the street lighting right?:) Or at least some
I think you just need to build something next to it, so it is on the same circuit as on what your genny is. Allthough into consideration the area the generator can supply with energy.

For instance depending where you place the generator at the crossroads south of WP and NE from Muldraugh, you can have one or two lampposts function again.
(Spiffos has one, Gas Station and the CLoth store too, depending where you place the genny you can bring back 1-2 lamp posts to life. )

Another option is to take down the outdoors lamps, or porch lamps from the houses that have those. You can then hang it up on something and supply them with power via a generator. I have done this, so this works. Only thing you need to pay attention to that sometimes it is not easy to turn them "on" again, as they can be turned on and off. Also the light bulb can just break in it, and you can wonder for a while why it is not giving light:)

As Nordil said, you just have to properly position your generator to be in range with what you want to power. I have small bookcases in strategic places all over my bases outside space with lightbulbs, batteries, and other consumables items I may need outside so they're always at a hands reach. If you use two generators at once or if you have a spare in place, be sure both are in range of what you want to power but not to have them too close to each other, for safety reasons.

I didn't test this, but I think the more stuff you have connected to your generator the more gas it consumes, it can just be wrong perception from my part, though. If anyone tested this and is willing to share the info that'll be cool.

You can literally check the consumption of each and every single thing the generator powers up.
Lights x 9
Freezer x 1

and so on. It will state the consumption of the fuel per hour and thus will give you an estimate how long your generator can run with the current power consumption. (GENERATOR INFO)

You can actually keep as many generators as you want beside each other, just make sure none of them have their status drop under 50% elsewise there is a chance they burn.
I usually have 2-3 generators per place, wait until one runs out, then start the other one. Meanwhile i fix the one that ran out of fuel, needs electricity skill level 1, and electric parts/scrap. Fixes 4-6%. Then refuel it, and wait until the other one is out of gas.

The only misleading thing regarding power consumption is any kind of radio.
They consume energy from the generator, however they drain the battery as well.

Thanks. I didn't even paid any attention to the bottom of the screen, and I usually just hover the pointer over the info to check the durability and remaining fuel. I noticed it lasted longer once I put away one popsicle fridge and a mini fridge but wasn't sure.

And yeah, same here, I always first turn on my backup gen before turning off the currently working one. Learned the hard way your frozen food will melt otherwise in one of my early runs.

Candle is available in vanila. Lamp oil no.
However candle is not that common, i actually never ever even lit one even when i found one:) Since you cant make new ones.

There was a way to do that back when the electrician was added. back then zeds dropped batteries and you could use batteries on wall lights. I can not find that in game anymore.

Candles are like flashlights and lighters where you have to hold them in your hand.

Yeah i usually dont use any of these. Firstly I tend to not go out at night, these days, cuz of pitchblack night.
But every now and then i used flashlight and the lighter. Allthough mostly lighter. Like looting that one last shed after sundown and then heading home.

My general rule of thumb. Hand torches for indoors and regular flashlights for outside, unless your at a safe location like your base etc.

Safe location/Hideout: If i dont have a generator then no lights, beside perhaps the fire from the fireplace, or oven. That is it. I memorize the layout of the home and which bunch of stuff where i placed. If i got a generator, i have the lights on.
