How do zombies notice me through walls ?

So i was sitting in the livingroom reading a Book (Doors close and windows were far away/Closed with curtains.)

Suddenly i just hear glas smash and a zombie was standing in the room right next to me:

i was sitting in front of the seat and the zombie with the black band shirt just stood next to me where there is no door or window (i just heard the window smash)

Probably just happened to wander into the window after a meta event happened (dog barking, someone screaming, gunshots, etc). Do you happen to have a television or radio on in the building? That might have drawn some attention to a zombie if it wandered close enough.

Like the comment above says they sometimes wander on their own, and can attack whatever window or door is blocking their path to whatever destination the are shambling towards to.

And just in case you're wondering, no, there are no smell mechanics.

There are 3 windows...none seems to have curtains
You were standing somewhere in the middle of these 3 windows
Any zombie wandering around could have seen you

Plus, perhaps the TV was On doing some attracting noise

Board those windows up, park a car in front of them, and never worry about them breaking in again.

They'll start breaking any windows and doors in their path if they wander into them. I've seen hordes wander into houses that were closed up. Doesn't look like you curtained everything either

You can also just block windows and doors with a refrigerator as well if you do not have a lot of cars. Works just as good.
