How to complete the Tutorial?
When I get to the part where you have to shoot the 2 zombies with the shotgun, I get stuck. You only get one bullet, and after you fire it, you can literally do nothing. You can't seem to use the shotgun in melee, and you certainly aren't allowed to unequip it. The zombies can't damage me, and the prompt keeps telling me to shoot them. I'm kind of confused.

Nevermind, I figured out that you can spam Spacebar to also attack after you've shoved a target down... the game never once explains this, though :/

Are you playing Build 40 or 41? The latter definitely tells you about that before the shotgun part.

Build 41. The tutorial does tell you about "aiming at downed zombies, using the isometric view", but I'm pretty sure it doesn't mention using space bar. At the very least, it wasn't very obvious, especially since the mission indicator at the end of the tutorial specifically says "shoot the zombies", but whatever.

The biggest problem I'm having now, is I don't seem to be able to loot zombies, like I could in the Tutorial. I just finished my first playthrough, and despite killing 50 Zombies, none of them let me loot them or interact with the bodies (beyond picking up the corpses). One of them even had a shotgun, but I wasn't allowed to pick it up?

I encountered that exact same problem.. was about to rage quit when I accidentally discovered that I could shove and stamp too. Tot it was just a random bug but it seems like it is a design issue. Locking up parts of the game interface without enough consideration.

During the Tutorial (before the shotgun) you get a Frying Pan, Open and Climb through a Window. After hitting the zombie on the head with the Frying Pan and knocking it down to the ground the tutorial say, "You Could Also Use Space..."

Make sure your Inventory is actually open.

Best advise: Slow Down. It seems like you're trying to rush things and you're missing the basics.

It is not about "correctness". it is about "appropriateness"
imo, the tutorial is not yet "appropriate".
BioFringe (Banned) Jul 1, 2021 @ 9:55am
How is it not appropriate? It literally tells you exactly what you claim it doesn't. If you were paying attention well enough you wouldn't have needed to post this thread. But you weren't. It's not a big deal. Live and learn but to project your problems on to the tutorial is in fact, wrong.

Are there any other issues that you might be having that we might be able to help clarify? If so but you don't want to ask please remember that there's an extensive in-game help guild via F1 that has all the info you need complete with pictures. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I think a lot of players are experienced and have long forgotten how it was when starting out. Myself becoming one of them actually.

To be fair I think the tutorial tried to disable some options to guide the new player along, but it seems to be creating more confusion, as actions the new player just learnt suddenly became unavailable.

And I think, judging from a fair perspective, new players WILL get lost at the part the OP mentioned because the tutorial said to shoot the zombie BUT there are no more bullets.

e.g. I didn't know how to switch weapons, I didn't know how to even switch to hand-to-hand, and I didn't even know how to push the zombie down and stomp.

Even if the game "mentioned" the workarounds etc, it was easily missed.

And as a whole, I don't think it fully met its intended goal as a tutorial. Hence "inappropriate". Should be improved.

Strange I had the same issue, finding the melee option via the keybinds... and I played the tutorial twice to be sure, yes there is a melee tutorial with a pan but I never picked up the space to melee or stomp in the tutorials myself.
I learnt it because I watched a lot of YT vids from AA, CR and Nomis.

The problem, is that a lot of the tutorial skips ahead when you start to do the things it asks. Like, there are parts where it's like "go here and do this", but unless you stand there doing nothing and reading the entire explanation first, the dialog skips ahead before you can read the whole thing. Sometimes it asks you to press Space Bar to advance, but it doesn't ask for this enough, and often auto-advances.

Someone here said that if the tutorial covered everything, it would be an hour long; I don't see this as a bad thing. The tutorial could be broken up into multiple parts, and you can quite them or continue them as needed. A good example of this is Factorio. In order to start a full single player experience, your required to complete 4? mini scenarios, some of which do take a half hour or longer. And after you start the main game, there's an in depth help log for more obscure things that come much later in the game, although it was mentioned that this game has one too, but I haven't tried it yet.

For the most part, having played many other survival games, things are mostly self explanatory. I haven't done anything complicated yet, like mechanics or carpentry, but that's mostly because I haven't stumbled across a hammer or saw, but I'm sure that stuff isn't too hard (and there's plenty of videos on that stuff, anyway).

I actually did pretty well on my first playthrough, and made it to the fourth day. However, I forgot to turn the stove off after eating, and didn't realize it was the cause of my overheating, which I died of stupidly -_-. Although, now that I know what to expect, I've installed a few mods, and I'm ready for Round 2.

I watched an early game tips video though, and had some of the events spoiled for me. I'm kind of worried about the helicopter event and the power going out. I tend to play these games slowly and methodically, so the chances of me finding a generator or working car to survive these events is unlikely. I guess my first goal, is to find a base of operations with a well, so that I have water when the power goes out.

Overall, the game has been fun. Definitely has my heart pumping, despite having played stuff like 7Days, and the like. It is kind of annoying how easily zombies detect you though. A lot of times they find me, just from removing broken glass. I don't really see why that picking up glass would cause that much noise. Also, the first house I ever tried getting into had a house alarm, which alerted like 100 zombies. That nearly gave me a heart attack.

Don't get me wrong here, I am still loving the game... just played a bad ass woman collecting all the bling, she had 15 kills all melee unarmed... in her camo shorts and rock shirt, and she went out swinging a guitar,
I would say the tutorial is a bit short on the thing you need to do a lot, killing Z's, as in instead of trolling you with a shottie, maybe get you to curb a Z, then stab another, then maybe get you rolled when they give you a gun ?

Well, I can't seem to do as well as my first run. I keep spawning into 1 floor houses that have no weapons, and usually die within 10 minutes, due to how fast stuff breaks. Kind of hard to enjoy, with the hardcore death enforced.
Flare |UKCS| Jul 1, 2021 @ 3:41pm
The [space bar] melee is good, push 'em over then stomp on the heads... try get 1 v 1 then push the Z over, its not the best but when you start make each fight 1 v 1... if there is more then bail, run away and kite them to 1 v 1.
Later when you got weapons you can take more, get one down then stand on them, and kill the other but I do get how the start can be annoying.
I suggest taking survivor and some melee heavy profession to learn how to melee, its annoying as heck.
I practise after getting hit, bandaging the hits and fighting more...either I am dead or I get to kick more butt,
I grab all the bling, and the clothes I want to nab, till I die.
I have 50+ chars done but I have learnt.

How do you make the Clock visible? Whenever I watch a video, I can see a time visible on their screen. I found the Clock settings in Options, but now how to make it appear.
Flare |UKCS| Jul 1, 2021 @ 4:18pm
Just nab a alarm clock in homes, or a watch off dead Z's... often you can nab watches off the dead, a digital watch gives you time and temp, a classic is just good for time... but time helps you catch the shows on Living TV ... 6am, 12am 9pm and 12 pm for free skill shows, just be near the tube set to Living and you get free SP for the first 9 days IIRC.
