Side rant, Honestly First Aid is one of the worst skills, Because you can't really level it through natural gameplay- Zombies are far too dangerous, even a scratch from them is a 5% chance of infection, which is irreversible; You will die to it. Laceration is 25% chance of infection, and a bite is a 100% chance of infection; If you're bit, you're dead.. It might take a few days before the infection kills you; And you might get lucky a few times.. But you'll most likely die to zombie infection rather than to literally anything else. (Unless of course you play with infection disabled.)
And because you're almost certainly going to die by infection, the First aid skill becomes essentially worthless, You're unlikely to get injured in non-zombie ways often enough for it to matter unless you make a habit out of climbing through broken windows without removing the glass first or jumping off buildings instead of using the stairs.. And the few injuries you get from zombies that dont outright spell death are going to heal pretty quick anyway.
Zombie infection on the other hand is straight up death- If you get it, You're dead. The game doesn't ever directly tell you you've been infected by the zombie virus; Instead it presents as an onset of moodles after receiving a scratch/laceration/bite; You'll become in pain soon after the zombie infection occurs, and within the next 0-48+ hours you'll become sick, with increasing pain, and health decreasing slowly over time. (The timescale over which the ramping illness and pain take place are determined by the one setting in the sandbox that determines time before it's terminal; cant remember the name of it)
There's no preventing it- If you get scratched/lacerated/bit, it's a flat chance of it infecting you, and no mitigating it except via the Thick Skin skill which slightly reduces the chance of infection via scratch and laceration(But bites will still be 100% chance of zombie infection)
It doesnt help at all against the only real danger (zombie infection...) and everything else can be healed with 0 in First Aid (even with slow healer and prone to illness...)
Being wounded should be rare to very rare for any decent player...
Talk about a useless skill..
In fact, the ideal character should have exactly 0 XP in First Aid...the perfect playthrough with zero player mistake
Now.. the game is in EA and there are NPCs to come (soon...lol), both animals and humans
And these NPCs will likely be able to hurt the player...which is where First Aid could come into play
Also, there is MP and PVP...with regular weapons
Here, First Aid could have a use too
For sure though unless First Aid was required to do some more complex procedures like properly suturing a wound or removing glass or other objects from deep tissue, there's no real reason to level it up, especially not grinding it anyway.
Perhaps if you managed to build a big community for other players and one of you was a stay-at-home doctor that tended to wounds and did all of the bandage changing that'd be something, but considering everyone can more or less look after themselves and infections can be treated by just repeatedly disinfecting the wound at the moment, becoming a dedicated first responder is one of the lower choices, in my opinion.
Perhaps if they one day made high levels of First Aid allow you to make some kind of stimulant immuno-booster out of antibiotics, adrenaline and other medications that delayed the affects of zombification (think like Zombrex from Dead Rising or something) without actually curing it, then it'd be a major skill worth picking up, lol.
Nope. Its always 100%
Maybe it could also be something to do with the luck trait?
Either way if it isn’t turned off yea, almost (maybe guaranteed) death from bite inevitably.
There’s a mod that lets you study zombie corpses for first aid do though. Since I have it set to slow zombies and I’m really good with the spear, I have abundant corpses for study, lol.
It would be nice to be able to stop zombification in some way though, even if it was as suggested with the zombrex style meds.
There was a bug in older versions when a bite wasn`t always 100%. Thats why this myth still exist.
TIS mentioned that time ago, now since the bug is fixed every bite will kill you.
Keep in mind the lucky trait only effect looting.
But my main skills are for the guns, blades (hunting knives and screwdrivers are so OP with that one hit kill) and mechanics ofcourse. I love cars - always have one.
So aside from First Aid I think they are all equally important.
The only way now is to cut/scratch yourself and take care of that.
