1.Get a generator and use it to power your fridge.
2.Foraging animal:This way you can get egg or frog that you can cook depending of your foraging skill. This way you have food each day until winter.
3.Farming.Best way to never run out of food.Depending on your game setting, you can plant something each week(one of each)then after 2 weeks or 2 months depending on your setting you will be able to gather each week so you will never run out of food unless you loose your plants. You can farm indoor too to advoid the huge winter penalty on crops.Patato can last 53 day without rotting if i remember right.
4.If you live by a water you can alway fish.
5.Increasing cooking skill to lvl 7 so you can eat rotten food.Be aware rotten food have almost no calory.
6. Trapping. This skill is a big +++ combining with farming.Eventualy at high lvl you will be able to get rabbit worth 2500 cal or more.Animal can last about a week or so.The trick is to wait before chopping it until its about to rot and then you chop it.Its will reset the timer and you will be able to keep it few day more.Rabbit like cabbage and carrot when its come to trapping.I prefer cabbage mainly due to the fact that carrot can be tricky to grow if your crop is outside and its raining a lot.
Keep in mind that even with a gen you will eventualy have to live without power because you can run out of repair part for your gen as well(Gaz won't be a problem). So you will have to adapt your playstyle that each day to 3 day you will have to get food somehow.
Hopefully this going to help you.
Have a good day

Running a generator is fairly easy to keep freezers/fridges running, but you'll need to find one first, then carry it back to your base (those things are heavy) and then go for gas runs periodically. Funny thing, in order to power the gas pumps after the power is off, you'll need to bring your generator with you and hook it up to the pumps. Makes for some fun runs.
Don't worry about electronic scrap for repairs though. The world is full of stuff to dismantle and the zeds carry a lot of watches around with them too. I suppose this might be more difficult depending on your loot settings though.
You will also need sugar and vinegar, and then have to "cook" the filled jar.
It is still not preserved forever, but it will last much longer.
Now, of course, you need the damn generator book...but well
And it is not like you need a lot of fuel either
A few fuel cans nearby the generator are enough for quite long
As for carrying generators (very heavy)...cars have trunk and seats...
