Trapping bait..quantity and bait questions
I've set up 1x trap crate near a forest that you can forage with the appropriate bait but I'm quite not sure if I did it right.. also traps were set far away. Like 4-5 screens away from my base

question one...
Does it matter if the bait is "frozen?" or not? I've noticed baits I've set don't "rot." It has been like 3days and my trap didn't trigger and my "tomato" bait is still there so I assume my bait didn't "thaw" which denied me from catching any game meat.

question two...
How many traps should I set? I know the more the higher chance to catch something but I'm on limited supply of nails so what I'm asking is the "bare minimum" to sufficiently feed me in a day

1. frozen bait works same as unfrozen bait, at least on iwbums branch. Just tried out of curiosity.

2. I'll guess you have a base and a freezer up and running since you asked about frozen bait. If you have other food source (basically, growing cabbages) then one, maybe 2 tops is enough ? I'm running 3 traps and have lots of spare rabbit meat.

If low on nails, snare traps are good too (level1 trapping should come soon ; requires only 2 unit of twine and a plank). To raise trapping level, stick traps are best (only 1 unit of twine, works everywhere 24/7). Later, cage traps (only takes wire).

In the end you still have to do supply runs but you can optimize ressources needed (nails, twine, wire), since they all spawn in the same places.

As a side note, you can acquire vast amounts of nails by dismantling furniture. Never understimate the amount of nails a warehouse of boxes is worth.

thank you so much for taking time to try out and confirming it!

I'd love to try other traps like the stick traps but I have no luck finding twine after raiding almost half of Muldraugh map. 2 warehouses 1 gas station.

I leave houses intact just in case I need "house parts." You solved my nail problems. thank you

traps dont like zombies nearby them, and zombies are attracted to them and will destroy the, so make sure there's no zombies around them. the "zone" the trap is in also matters.
for example you can catch rats, mice and birds anywhere.
but you can only catch rabbits and such on a forest, deep forest or farmland zone for example.
a good indicator for forest zones is if you can forage there.
and the zoning is a bit weird/harsh sometimes so keep that in mind.

How many traps are effective in one "chunk"? Or in each "Forage" zone so to say? ty

As many as you want. You can place 10 traps next to each other, np.

When your traps do nothing and the bait is gone, then they're too close to your base.
Currently I have 4 Traps for rabbits, the bait is set at around 18:30 and I check them at 21:30, 0:30 and 5:00.
With trapping level 8 its possible to get 3-6 Rabbits per day with cabbage as bait (next to the gun shop / Twiggys).

Just make sure to take enough bait to refill the traps whenever you check them and never bait outside of the animals active time to prevent wasting the bait.

How close is too close? I've read 75 tiles away from where you sleep. Like this far....
https://imgur.com/J7HkCLM sometimes even farther when I loot and get "ridiculously tired" moodle.. anywhere above that map near the houses around the warehouse.. still no game caught from traps..lv1 trapping

The place on your image could be too close, if you cannot catch anything at all try it at the place in the bottom left corner of the image.
AFAIK you need to keep 1 zone of distance, in the wiki a zone is 40x40 tiles around the player, so that would be 80 tiles.

It also depends on the zone type where you put your traps, if you cannot forage then its probably a "town" or "trailer park" with very low chance to catch rabbits or squirrels.
OTOH the wiki isn't exactly clear on how to find out what zone you are in.

I didnt actually measure tiles but 1 whole sprint from being fit isnt enough to reach it. My guess those are forest as I can forage in that backyard when the house nearest to it was my previous main base. I'll try to move one trap on your recommended location and see how it goes.
