I’ve not visited it but if that car park has some cars in it might be a good spot tennis courts are notoriously good for zombie killing I might head over there for a look next time I play as it’s near my current compound which is here

Wht I like is the car park the tennis court and the lake proximity. Where I am right now I either go and live at the lake (which I won’t do as I am currently half dependent on regular loot trips) or I go and find a place nearer to some fresh looting grounds (riverside) which is probably what I’ll do. Plus I’ve been floating at 4.5k kills for about a month now. I got plenty of shells out of the back room of hunting shop far north, but it’s a debate whether I should spend them on the secret military base gambling on whether I find an assault rifle or more shells, though riverside I know has the police station to stock up. Currently burning .44s and shells only everything else is in reserve for later date so I think golf course is my next trip

north one or south one you decide.

Gas, fishing and trapping. These are the best locations. Two of them are even low zed pop.

Only 3 windows, all facing lowest zombie count areas
Slightly faster road access
Ive played a lot in this house and have had very long survivals there
Only real downside of all this mansion area is being 'quite far' from the gas station and crap roads full of turns
Still, nowadays in MD, i prefer the Tavern

I like taverns as bases anyway...and they all low density for a reason
Low zombie density
Much better control of the gas station
I like mechanics, so the huge parking is a big plus
Easier to navigate roads and closer to the highway...fast escape...big plus when playing with more than once helicopter ,D
Wood and Forage...but lake quite 'far'
Have to bring commodities like TV, good bed, oven...no big deal, but...annoying
Big indoor
My overall prefered base location

There are plenty more....
Ficelle I feel like a tavern would be a little too roomy for me.
That is definitely my preferred gas station! Very low Z count.
I make my own car park..

It's simply the best location for a base in Zomboid in my opinion. I've known some good bases but this one is on top of my list by far.
First of all, it's isolated enough to avoid being bothered by zombies after a day or two of clearing the nearby woods, yet it's reachable with a vehicle since an asphalt road leads to it.
Secondly, it's right next to a gas station that you can power up anytime with a generator ( which can be found not very far from there ). There's also a lot of storage to loot if you ever find a sledgehammer.
Finally, you have all the natural ressources you want: fishing can be done all around the house. You can forage right next to it in three different locations. Of course, there's plenty of trees as well.
There is a two stories home next to the lighthouse. At first I would spend my night in the lighthouse, but when I felt safe enough I migrated to the now-barricaded home... Not a single zombie dared to knock. I now use the lighthouse as a greenhouse, where I grow my vegetables at the top floor, and use the bottom floor as storage room.
The good thing is that once you've cleared the area to the right side of the lighthouse, you can only expect the zombies to come from the left side.
Basically, you will spawn pretty much on the other side of the map, so it's a long way to go. I died a few times just trying to find a secure spot in the spawn area which is just too crowded and doesn't have the key ressources you need. I had enough of struggling, so I decided my next run would involve scouting the place first. I took a pickup truck and drove my way into the heart of the city and went through it ( be careful of the many broken cars, especially near the hotel where there's literally thousands of z's ). I was telling myself I'd end up finding some area that would be good enough to be worth defending. Well, I did.
There's an archipelago in Kingsmouth that only connects to the bigger area through a bridge. This means you can clear up the entire archipelago and secure the bridge with walls or cars if you want, ensuring total control of a small town with no fear of being bothered by hordes. Personally, I felt pretty safe once I cleared the area near the lighthouse, I didn't build any defenses. When I got the chopper event, I just went for a ride around a nearby block, ran over a few zombies and went back home.
The key here is to simply always have a vehicle ready, but I'm not saying anything new.
There's only one really big horde in the archipelago: the one that's within the military base to the north.
But first, to get rid of it, I needed guns... Well I figured there would be some in the police station; they were pretty easy to locate and were ready for the taking. I then went for where the real armories could be found: the military base.
There's a lot of zombies there, but if you are patient you can take the vast majority of them with all the guns and ammo you've collected at the police station. Then you will find this:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2609870811
Then you can not only clear the military base, but the whole map, if you want.
The worst area is probably the hospital. You will figure out there isn't that much stuff, the "survivors" weren't great looters.
You know I still haven't even fired a gun...
Great read, sounds fun!

It's close to Cortman Medical and the Convenince Store, but also near the edge of town. The big bonus is the long back fence. There are a lot of trees in the yard so you can quickly make stockade walls and boost your Carpentry fast! Once you clear this side of the fence, it keeps most zombies from pathing around it. Always help if you trip a burglar alarm or two to get the neighborhood cleaned out! ;)
Thanks! I like your thread.
I also remembered the best base location if you play with friends ( in my opinion ) for the vanilla map: https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.4728817659192188,0.0902543968171973,128
Well, that is... if we don't talk about the Rosewood prison of course.
It's a storage area that's secured by a large fence, so the zombies can only come from one direction. They can't destroy the fence ( for now, at least ). We ( in multiplayer ) set up a base there last year and played quite a lot. We used the little garage rooms as our own personal rooms, so everyone had their own spot to store their belongings, beds and other furniture, which was pretty cool. There's enough room to store vehicles, make a garden, collect water, etc. However it's not near a natural water source and you will have to venture out of the fenced perimeter to forage. In the garages, there's like maybe 6 generators or something... You can use and abuse energy as you wish.
The staff room located to the left side was our HQ where we set up a kitchen, ham radio, quick-to-grab items like weapons, towels and medicine and we would hang out there, using the radio to keep in touch with those who were looting the area. Next to that room is a corridor with many little rooms that we used to store ressources for the whole group. What's cool is that the place is rather isolated ( if you clear out the nearby trailer park, which isn't much of an issue, and actually a good place to get ressources early on ), but it's also close to Riverside, which offers many hours of looting and zombie slaying.
As for the entry point that the zombies go to: I built a large door so we could enter and exit with our vehicles. On top of that door, I built a platform with wooden floor tiles. It basically looked like a medieval fortress lol. If zombies came around, we'd get on top and shoot them. When we felt safe enough, I triggered a few chopper events just for the kicks. We had to evacuate at some point but we killed so many of them that we couldn't even see the grass anymore. We came back a day later and repossessed the place rather quickly.
You can build stairs to get on top of the garages, creating overhead paths surrounding the base. I then baptized the place Megaton because it reminded me of the Fallout 3 city. However, be careful if you ever walk on the roof of the main building ( the HQ I spoke of earlier ) as you will fall through it ( this happens with un-flattened roofs in Zomboid, unfortunately ). I recommend building wooden floors on the roofs before walking on them. There's even a faulty design in that building because there's a hidden restroom with no doors. I actually fell into it myself, cursed myself thinking I was going to die like an idiot. Thankfully my sister was around with a sledgehammer to destroy the wall, otherwise I would've died of starvation lol.
Since you're telling me you haven't fired a shot yet, maybe you would like some tips, or maybe you don't, so I'm hiding it as spoiler material:
Leveling up in weapons is pretty difficult. You will miss your shots and feel like you're wasting your precious ammo at first, which is unfortunately true. If you want to get early levels fast, use the shotgun first, as it has a much greater chance of hitting your targets, giving you more xp faster. Once you've leveled up a little, you can use the 9mm which is the most widespread ammo I think, so it's less of a bother when you miss.
The key is to work in circles. You shoot zombies and they come from all directions... So you need to make them pack up in large concentrated groups by running around them. This way they will form one big unit, and your shotgun blasts will never miss and you will level up really quickly. When there are too many zombies, make bigger circle movements. Always walk unless you feel like there's pressure coming from too many directions at once. You can reload safely while walking... Always look at your exhaustion level, never carry too much weight and be patient. It really pays off when you gather the zombies in groups. Always have an escape route in mind when you start doing that, and do it in clear areas to avoid getting caught by the environment.
I wonder if they will ever put together big public servers with clans working around the clock MMO style.
I've never felt the urge to get into the gun side of things. I generally fight herds slowly, a few at a time. I use the spear and level up maintenance. My armour is a sweater and a pair of sneakers so I can run longer.
I'm sure I'll get into it soon.
Where does one find the assault rifle?
Oh yes, that's a good spot too. It reminds me of Walking Dead's Alexandria. Very easy to defend and a lot of free space to build on. There are gated houses in Kingsmouth too and the thought of fortifying one came to my mind, but you can't forage and there's no natural water source so I stuck with the lighthouse.
The gated community Commander Kay speaks of is indeed to the north west, a bit out of Rosewood if you will. It might take you maybe 2 or 3 days to clear it properly because the zombies are not normally in one group, they're kinda a little everywhere, in and out of the houses. Some may hide behind the houses so be careful not to get caught thinking you've entirely cleared the place. It's more of an issue when the trees begin growing all over the place, reducing your depth of sight.
The cool thing with this place is that there's a parking lot next to it and your chances of finding a proper vehicle are high. If not, you can deconstruct them and gain easy mechanic XP. It's a good place to live in if you plan to depopulate the prison.
