err, I mean. Baseball bat is always a good choice.
Depends where you stand on the crawlers actually, since you supposedly can stop them from turning.
Also if you have all three, think on utilities not just weapons.
For instance you can only use i think tuna with frying pan(or was it sardines?).
Kitchen knife is good to slice stuff, cut up stuff etc. So if you find the recipe to make bread you can have 3 slices of bread and make sandwiches or burgers.
As a weapon use baseball bat until it lasts, also try to add some nails to it if you can. However keep in mind that it has a high stamina toll.
Kitchen knife has low stamina cost, decent damage but breaks VERY fast. It is a tool and not a weapon.
Frying pan is medium in regards to longevity as a weapon, but damage is slightly better than kitchen knife.
(I would keep all three items if i have the STR for it, or i would place them somewhere i can easily retrieve them. Since you may not find one of the tools for a while. Like me not finding a single frying pan for over 3 weeks now! along with a sack, so time for a long excursion!)
they usually will fall over it and give you a chance to bash them before they get back up,
depending on mods as well a Long Spear is good, but i try to save knives and pans to cook with usually, but you can tie a knife onto a long spear :)
Weapons, Water, and Food..... in That order
Only time I use a frying pan is when there's nothing else around. So it's a stop-gap, back-up weapon doubling as a tool (mainly tool) for food.
If you spawn in a house and you get a baseball bat right away just go for it. These things are incredibly strong and if you got a character with high strength etc most zeds go down in one hit.
Pair it with the Baseball Player or Brawler trait and you're gonna have a fun time with these I guarantee it. It's like if you did a axe run. So satisfying to use.
I'm sure once you get going it's gonna be hard to stop and you'll be converted either to the 'Axe Man' or 'Baseball Man' side.
Knives are a great weapon though once you get around to understanding how they worked. I know in Build 40 they were my bread & butter but they worked differently there. In the latest build ya gotta be more careful with em'.
Hammers are another great weapon if you find one right away. It's like a baseball bat with lower damage but faster swing speed.
Screw-drivers (being a cousin to the hammer) eh... honestly are more of a utility than anything. Sure they work but... not as well as a hunting knife or kitchen knife.
Rolling pins are a poor man's hammer... I'd only use one if I were desperate and couldn't find anything else otherwise I just go for a hammer straight away.
Guitars though are surprisingly good weapons when you're first spawning. But they break fast - so consider them highly expendable and "They did their job" until you find a weapon that lasts.
Crowbars are another great weapon that can easily substitute for a baseball bat if you find one. Decent power, swing speed, durable like crazy. I always go for one if I can't find a bat.
My melee build is usually like this: bat (crowbar) and two hand axes (wood axe works but you need loads of stamina for it and high strength for it to be effective but otherwise a great weapon). Fire-axe works too if you can find one. These guys being a fire department tool are strong in their own right. Hell, maybe just go full on axe build, get a fire-axe and two hand axes (sometimes I do that).
Lots of options.
