Sunday driver can't tow - triggered...
So I'm almost two months in now. Big farm set up on the second level and skills levelling up nicely. Forest on my back door step and a lake round the corner.
So I've just spent an hour trying to work out why I'm having so much trouble towing. Do cars have hand brakes? Nope. Do I need to pump up all the tires? Nope.
But... apparently it's one of the draw backs to Sunday Driver.

My game mind set was really gearing up to centre around mechanics. I just put down about two hundred wood floor tiles to make it easier to tow cars around my base. Fridge is full of food, tool cupboards are brimming, ready to start towing cars home... and now thanks to Reddit I'm kinda just staring at the monitor not sure what to do. Kind of disappointed..

This could well be the problem ^^^ i think sunday driver directly relates to the maximum force applied to the accelerator. Offroad means you wont move at all. While on road it feels like the car you're towing has its handbrake on.

Just a bug that is going to be fixed with the next update.

w+shift+spacebar to drive faster

hmm? I thought the space bar put on the brakes.. *out to test*

Sunday Driver has always been bad
This trait makes you accelerate and drive very slowly
Vehicle torque is not used fully...cant tow / move through zombies / drive offroad...normally

With the totally nerfed / bugged torque in 41.54, Sunday Driver is probably even worse (havent tried...)
Even 'normal dirver' has a hard time towing (only reverse towing seems to work well)

And man, a game centered on Mechanics with....Sunday Driver....strange choice ;D

Ok.. Idk wth just happened. The cruise control steady went up like I thought but when the brakes tried to engage it seemed to cause an acceleration glitch of sorts. It was close to the same speeds at the same time but it looked like the test with brakes was going a little faster. You might somehow get more torque out of doing it.. someone else needs to try, lol. Idk for sure yet.

Can confirm now. If your cruise is set up high and you push all 3 buttons at once, from a dead stop you will shoot out like a rocket(at least in the car I tested). lol, nice find.

Poster obviously did not do the research.
There are a few posts about WHY NEVER TO TAKE SUNDAY DRIVER.
One of them being also the exceptionally high fuel consumption.
Absalom Sep 25, 2021 @ 8:48am
Probably placebo effect, but I've found that if you drive in reverse (with Sunday Driver), fuel consumption isn't all that bad. Significantly better than driving forward. Of course you're moving at the speed of walking. But, hey, I'm in no hurry. Especially if I'm using my vehicle as a pack mule.

Wait a second did you check the tires?

I avoid both driver traits. When cars were they way they were in the last build, speed demon had you revving upwards of 5k RPM at any speed, lol.

I stopped using Sunday Driver when I realised how bad it was on off-road terrain lol, and I haven't used it since. It's not worth the tiny gain in points, I'd rather take something like Short Sighted or even High Thirst instead.

I've got Sunday driver on current game I can manage to tow other vehicles around roads, just over the shortest of grass if it's dry. Using the filibuster rhymes used car mod so that might help my truck has 440 hp and its about 71% condition with the engine at 63%. Didn't realise you could be got rid of a trait with debug so might have to look at that if I last a good amount of time. Though in games where I find a proper trailer can't say I've had a problem towing it over any terrain in the spring / summer months.

Speed demon also has higher consumption btw;)
